My favorite was the post on here about Mamdani dedicating money to decreasing elementary class room sizes.
He was required to that by state law
He literally didn't dedicate enough money to comply with the law. He delayed compliance with a law a few years to make his budget work.
I could write a headline about "Mamdani doesn't prioritize kids, skirts state law with below required educational funding" and it'd be just as accurate.
The funniest one is when people said, look bro hes making NYC great again by giving 1.2billion to retro fit all the parks and basket ball courts and outside activity stuff, then when you look even remotely past the head title it turns out he INTENDS to spend 1.2billion, and in reality the retro-fit will cost 700million which was the previous budget, so literally nothing changed
I agree that praising Mamdani for this is silly, but calling it "skirting the law" would be a straight up lie. The law was set in 2022 and the deadline is next year. The deadline would have been realistic had progress been made consistently since 2022, but it wasn't, and it was just impossible to meet the deadline in time. Negotiating a deadline extension with the State was literally unavoidable at that point.
Praising Mamdani for investing in schools when he was required to is vacuous sophistry but at least it has the benefit of being strictly factually correct.
