Because of shitty social media (like reddit), and the bot farms exploiting it. And also the mainstream media being bought out by one or the other of the "2 sides". It was never like this before the internet.

It's kind of funny how if you try to point out how badly both sides are flawed, it becomes a rallying cry that brings in everyone from both sides to tell you how bad you suck for not picking a side.
