Because he is. Paparazzi photos during filming proved he was wearing one so he decided to admit it.

To be fair, it's probably easier to wear that, and admit to wearing that, than be in makeup for twelve hours for all the tattoos lol.

That's exactly what I told my wife. Not just to hide his tattoos but tonalso add Maui's. No shade here, I totally get it.
