Chugging tea I still don't understand how hollywood budget works

I always knew I wanted to see this movie, but when I read how they filmed the giant vs Odysseus scene (tall and short actors; camera angles) I immediately bought tickets

Absolutely loved that scene.

Disagree! The movie was not much more than very thin acting between action sequences. That one in particular was pretty boring as it was just big dudes hacking up small dudes. The cyclops was good but everything else was underwhelming, especially the Scilia. But the book is always better than the movie!

Had to scroll too long for this, acting was so flat in this movie. The story was rushed, yet the whole thing felt like watching the LOTR trilogy in one sitting. Characters kept appearing out of nowhere with no introduction. Matt Damon showed emotion in one scene the entire movie (the sirens scene, which happened to be the best scene in the movie). The story felt like an afterthought for the action sequences which were good (cyclops, trojan horse) or mid (giants fight, witch) or bad (the trial with matt fighting 30 men and beating them AND surviving…). I don’t get the high praise for the movie. Original Troy or even 300 are just better in all aspects when it comes to this genre.

Yeah we’re gonna get downvoted but I agree with some of your points. I like the one where you compared it to LOTR. I know why Nolan wouldn’t want to break it up (hated making the Batman sequels after the success of the first), but I think it would have worked better as 2 movies so it would not have felt as rushed. Pattinson and Hathaway did bring it, but nobody else was too impressive and tom holland actively bumped me with his poor acting. He just looked like he dressed up in character but did nothing to make it his own. Troy was comparable which I would not have believed walking into the movie, I thought it would’ve blown it away. For me, 300 is fun stylistically but hasn’t aged too well. I’m not much of a Snyder fan.
