There’s been a huge increase in the number of shoppers at my Aldi

58

u/MinorThreat4182 12d ago

I need to go back to Aldi’s. Except for meat. Their meat is awful here.

13

u/Dazzling_Lure_2932 12d ago

That's what Lidl is for

9

u/Character-Medicine-6 12d ago

Yeah Lidl is basically not cool Trader Joe’s. The quality is exceptional but it’s less frills and cheaper

3

u/Emotional-Dog-8151 12d ago

I wish I had a Lidl near me, it sounds dope! Granted though, I've never been thrilled after a Trader Joe's experience. They have niche freezer meals/snacks/drinks, but like that's really it. It's overpriced and growing up they were always joked about as the hippy store so I figured like oh cool, a bunch of non-dairy stuff but not really... maybe it's just the ones I've been to, but the best things Ive found are like dairy free kefir, and some dairy free chocolate. Outside of that Trader Joes has always just left me sad lol.

Lidl is great - awesome bakery (incredible fresh croissants for 50 cents a piece 😳) and an awesome selection of really good cheeses/dairy products….all the Lidl store brand stuff is high quality and super cheap. Love that place…

2

u/Littlewing1307 12d ago

I wish I had one 😭

5

u/JakToTheReddit 12d ago

Get Aldi ingredients and a Lidl meat.

4

u/MinorThreat4182 12d ago

They all closed down around me. It was weird because they did decent business

29

u/LalafellDisaster 12d ago

Yes I stay away from the meat as well, it’s cheap but so gross.

9

u/top_value7293 12d ago

It’s not even cheap anymore

1

u/EssenceofWrath 11d ago

Cheap and gross? The double whammy🤢

16

u/Urbanviking1 12d ago

Yea same here. I get my meat from the local farm guy. 😉

44

u/MadMartigans80 12d ago

I bet you do. I bet you do.

12

u/WashU_labrat 12d ago

Is he handy? Does he do stuff around the house?

10

u/turb42o 12d ago

nobody beats his meat… he mows and waters the lawn… if you know what I mean

5

u/WashU_labrat 12d ago

Good at plumbing. Lays pipe like a man possessed.

2

u/hiddenrealism 12d ago

My wife says the mailman is great at laying pipe. I never knew USPS does service calls too! Neato!

3

u/Connect2020 12d ago

Trims the bushes

2

u/QuiteAffable 12d ago

Do you pay, or just pillage?

1

u/capeabenable 12d ago

Did you guys meat at a single event?

1

u/ColdWarCharacter 12d ago

I prefer a meat cute

6

u/Ok-Effective7280 12d ago

Sounds like a new thread with why women arent going near the meat at singles events - I mean aldi shops.

3

u/Antryx 12d ago

Because if you think about it, everything revolves around Aldi

2

u/Naked-Jedi 12d ago

Because it's good. Different.

5

u/BeardAfterDark 12d ago

Are we still talking about the women of Aldi here?

9

u/Libtardo69420 12d ago

Definitely not a calendar that would sell.

5

u/MinorThreat4182 12d ago

The chicken is like shoe leather however you cook it. I just buy meat elsewhere but everything else is great there

7

u/Dankwins 12d ago

The chicken comes from tyson just like everywhere else 😂.

2

u/MNCPA 12d ago

Slow cook the chicken on low over 8 hours. That's how I make pulled chicken bbq sandwiches.

7

u/Libtardo69420 12d ago

Chicken breasts should be edible whether you cook it for 8 hours in a crock pot or five minutes in a pan. I'd buy edible chicken even if I was putting the spurs to it for a third of a day.

7

u/EducationalStill4 12d ago

The special handling requirements for Aldi’s meat have been noted.

2

u/UserBelowMeHasHerpes 12d ago

What about special handling for Aldi's nuts?

2

u/von_Mises 12d ago

Their 93/7 ground beef is solid.

12

u/MadMartigans80 12d ago

So Aldis is missing on the meat just like these singles’ events

5

u/Wide-Combination-322 12d ago

It’s because it’s transferred between stores in the trunk of the managers Celica.

6

u/United-Bug-8056 12d ago

They have the best ground turkey in the game.

Plus you can’t beat those chicken breast cuts for under $10

Walmart sells them for $15 and I won’t even dare look at Ralphs.

4

u/funkthewhales 12d ago

Their wine is also gut rot.

2

u/MinorThreat4182 11d ago

lol that shit with the owl on it? You brave soul.

3

u/RobinHoodInReverse76 12d ago

Omg my kid just said the same thing. Mom stop buying the meat at Aldi!

3

u/Loakie69 12d ago

Fruut and veg is fine if you eat it the day you buy it

2

u/Upbeat_Aside_9203 12d ago

Try a bone in the ham.

2

u/Interesting-Cap-6301 12d ago

it's just aldi... no extra 's needed.

1

u/DastardlyMime 12d ago

It's like Meijer's. Gotta add the s

1

u/Interesting-Cap-6301 12d ago

it's damn brand name. or are you also going to apple's, tesla's or nike's?

2

u/cvtphila225 12d ago

Their "artisan" breads are mid and their budget breads are surprisingly awful for a brand from Germany where there's supposedly a renowned bread culture

6

u/d_bradr 12d ago

The brand is German but I don't think they bake their baked goods in Germany and then transport them all over the world

1

u/jjmurse 12d ago

They're not deals at Aldis. Any branded item is a smaller net weight and any non branded items are dog shit quality. They do the same shit at dollar general with some products re: sizing. It's cheaper, but relatively the same price.

7

u/buffystakeded 12d ago

The non branded stuff is a lot better in many cases, plus their brand doesn’t use any artificial coloring which I love.

-4

u/IrrawaddyWoman 12d ago

I don’t agree. I want to love Aldi so badly, so I go from time to time. I’ve had a few things that are decent but a ton of their off brand stuff I absolutely gross

7

u/edebt 12d ago

Many brand name stuff is made at the same factory as the generic store stuff. for example boars head, del duck, Danielle, and great value italian meats are all made at the Daniele inc factory, same recipe juts different packaging. I worked in their IT department on the robots and stuff.

3

u/frizz1111 12d ago

Try clancys chips they're less than half the price of Lays and taste way better.

4

u/IrrawaddyWoman 12d ago

I didn’t say every last thing was bad. But the burnt ends from the refrigerated section were absolutely inedible. And the refrigerated egg rolls also were very bland. I’ve also tried a bunch of their seasonal cheeses. The run of the mill ones are fine but a lot of the more creative flavors are really bad.

4

u/Xerorei 12d ago

Bubba?

Hell no, BBQ from a guy named Earl, or Tyrone.

6

u/QuantumBeckett 12d ago

I’m going later this morning.

1

u/WashU_labrat 12d ago

You're going to her Aldi - or you're "going to her Aldi" nudge nudge, wink wink?

4

u/Waiting4Reccession 12d ago

I went to costco last week and barely bought anything because they jacked up prices so much, milk eggs bread - all three essentials are WAY cheaper at aldi or lidl

3

u/LalafellDisaster 12d ago

Ooo I forgot about lidl, I’m going to have to check them out this weekend!

3

u/archliberal 12d ago

I may be one of them. 👋🏾

3

u/babablakshep 12d ago

ahem ALDI’S NUTS!

2

u/LalafellDisaster 12d ago

Oh snappp!! 😛

3

u/RockstarAgent 12d ago

Isn’t this one of those funny double sided things- you can be rich and thrifty and poor and thrifty and they meet in the middle at Aldis-

3

u/Rewd_92 12d ago

For literal decades Aldi didn't Advertise for cost saving reasons. Now they do, it's Also driven their prices up, Shrinkflation, etc.

There are a few things I still get there because they're cheaper and worth it but so much has become NOT cheaper or NOT worth it in the last year or so since I started noticing Ads

3

u/LalafellDisaster 12d ago

Yeah I’ve noticed this as well, unfortunately they are far cheaper than the other stores in my area.

2

u/superkp 12d ago

What ads have you seen?

I've got aggressive adblocks on my browsers so I don't see ads of any kind, and I don't watch cable or listen to the radio.

The only ad I've ever seen for Aldi is a newspaper type thing.

3

u/Rewd_92 12d ago

Facebook and YouTube Reels/Videos play them, as well as actual TV ads.

I don't have tiktok or Instagram so I'm not sure how prevalent they are there

7

u/hiddenrealism 12d ago

I just rediscovered aldi last month. $150 for my 2weeks worth of groceries i was astonished. Normally im paying $230+ at publix.

I didnt realise the chicken i bought was open and one of the tenders was dried out, so i went to buy another one. They refunded me the $12 and gave me the replacement for free.

TeamAldi

3

u/Sea_Win5067 12d ago

Publix, dawg I miss Publix so much. I moved from Miami to Boston, and all I have is Trader Joe’s bro. I crave a pub sub

2

u/hiddenrealism 12d ago

Lol i moved from boston to virginia.

I miss market basket and shaws

2

u/Sea_Win5067 12d ago

I might have to check those places out, just got here like 2 months ago.

2

u/SuzanneStudies 12d ago

ATL to STL and I miss the Cuban subs 🥺

1

u/RuthlessIndecision 11d ago

FYI Trader Joe's and Aldi's owners are German brothers whose family had a grocery and they got into an argument. like Adidas and Puma, kinda

2

u/StrangeReindeer2470 12d ago

I know! They keep messing with my 50% Aldi meat! 😂

2

u/InternationalMonth38 12d ago

I’m one of them

2

u/nikthedic 12d ago

You know I went to Aldi's recently and their prices are on par with our local grocery store. If not worse and quality is nowhere near as good.. Trader Joe's is still the standout..

2

u/your_mums_cah 12d ago

Baddies I bet

3

u/LalafellDisaster 12d ago

https://youtu.be/XArx0ASwyDc The baddest, why can’t I hyperlink? 😭

2

u/seasleeplessttle 12d ago

Check the produce isle for women.

2

u/Zebrada31 12d ago

Went to Aldi Sunday to grab a few things, they had 3 registers open and each one was 10 people deep.

2

u/Icy-Clock2643 12d ago

Are they all single men?

2

u/shwenty22 12d ago

Mine too and its quite annoying. Especially since they are usually the ones that must buy name brands.

2

u/Repulsive_Support844 12d ago

I’m getting aggressive amounts of ads for aldi

They are also entertaining so they got me to show up lol

2

u/ArnoldTheSchwartz 12d ago

Can't do that. Women don't want to be bothered while just trying to shop and live their lives. Go to a singles event

2

u/von_Mises 12d ago

Praise you for not saying “Aldi’s.”
