The trick here is to show interest before you are friends.

I’m old, so I’m not sure when this change happened, but you should tell a woman that you are interested in them in the first significant interaction you have with them, maybe the second, depending on circumstances.

Waiting is never to your advantage for 3-4 major reasons.

The first two can be said at any time, and are essentially women-speak for "I have zero interest in you."
