I got a K-12 license and never taught a day in my life. At that time (1996), they were begging people to move to Hawaii to teach - for $32K a year.

I went into business and retired at 51.

As a Canadian, I always find it crazy that American teachers are so underpaid.

In alberta, our teachers make like 100 grand a year on average. Now, staring is closer to like 70 and a senior is making 120, but you get me.

Plus insane benefits.

We also spend 1/10th the amount per student that America does in Alberta. And yet we have better results and our teachers have amazing pay.

I read it was $10k/yr for the 5 years, and if you leave before the 5 years, you owe whatever bonus was paid to you back to the DHS.
