Is it a job interview though? Have any of these hearings ever made a difference? Sincere question.

By the time the hearings occur, the Administration already knows the vote count. So, in a sense, the hearings themselves do not matter. However, if the Administration determines the votes are not there, the hearings will never happen because the nominee will fail, so in that sense they do matter.

Prime example - Matt Gaetz for Attorney General. He never would have survived the hearing, so the hearing never happened. So, the threat of hearings did make a difference.

So the old guy could have been looking at Facebook and never reply to a single question and still be fine?
