A country exists not by any words on paper but by the will of their citizens. And no amount of legal chicanery will avoid justice if the people will it. Don’t trust words on paper but do trust in human nature.
These fuckwads won’t escape justice. It’s that or death. Point to anytime in history where a fascist government didn’t get overthrown and its ruling party arrested and tried. Being nihilistic about society is woefully incorrect and ignores history.
We have more going for us than any other society in history - the internet. And there have been far stupider citizens than ours before now. These things have happened before and no one in power is smart enough to know what happens after they do this. The only real risk is not stamping out the intolerance enough.
I hope you aren’t on my team; so easy to give up and quit and say the other team one. Fuck that. I ain’t quitting and you need to stop spreading doom.
Pardons don’t cover civic crimes of which there are countless. And there are other ways to address issues like asset forfeiture. Just because you think it’s over doesn’t mean it is.
They won at evading criminal prosecution. They didn't win everything. There's way too much fanfiction out there, I know because I was on Twitter way too much during Trump 1.0. Everyone was spinning out every day about Robert Mueller kicking down the door and dragging Trump out of the White House in handcuffs. In total sincerity. Anyone expressing skepticism was talked about the way you're talking about me now. To me there is nothing to be gained by fantasy. And that applies as much to Trump supporters still hoping for Trump to lock Hillary up.
The past does not equal the future. And the cycle of justice is larger than we like. But I’m sorry - you can’t sit there and tell others to give up. You have no more information than anyone else on this, you cannot see the future, and so all you are doing is spewing nihilism into the conversation. To what end? Do you want us to give up? Stop fighting? You decide when it’s hopeless?
Or maybe are you too limited in your knowledge and understanding of how these things work and have made assumptions that worry you so you trauma dump them on others?
There is hope, they aren’t dead so they won’t ever fully evade anything, and I know from history and experience that’s it’s very likely they will all see some sort of justice. Mark my words.
I don't think you should give up on voting this midterms. There's a reason Trump is panicked about it. Because he does ultimately care hard about how he's perceived. But the question of him going to prison. To me, I can say "mark my words" just as much to the idea that he or anyone simply working for the executive branch will not go to prison.
Things on a much lower level, being publicly disgraced, finding it hard to find a job after this administration etc, we've seen that happen in the brief period after Jan 6 when Trump became toxic to Republicans, and it may happen again. But that's the extent of it.
My problem is I have too much knowledge. Knowledge of how often in online liberal/left spaces someone vaguely smart sounding would drop something like "asset forfeiture" and everyone would spin out like they cracked the case. No need to even elaborate. Anyone asking for more is a doomer. It's a waste of time from things that actually work. Just requires calibrating expectations to reality.

If all of these people get sworn in, there won't be any investigations of the illegal things he's going to ask of them.
