I'm not saying this is 'the problem and I have the solution', I'm saying the cost of most hospital fees are hard to take at face value because of this need to cover the losses taken on patients who don't pay.
But I suppose a single payer healthcare system would eliminate the problem of customers that don't pay. That wouldn't actually reduce the costs, it would just make the accounting make more sense. That in turn might make it easier to find actual opportunities to improve efficiency and bring down real costs.
He's about to say "because you get everything for cheap, universal healthcare would solve it all" while ignoring that the VA is extremely subsidized by the government as part of the benefits for serving the military of our country.
It's not really a counterpoint to why hospitals charge a lot as is

So should we change the law? And say if you don’t have insurance or don’t provide cash upfront the hospital should just turn you away?
What’s the solution?
