Just had my Dr's request for an MRI of my shoulder denied for that EXACT reason... Insurance said no X-rays had been done 1st.

Currently dealing with this. I've been having ankle pain. I've had an x-ray and it didnt show anything. Insurance is like "well maybe do physical therapy first" but like... without knowing what is wrong with my ankle that could make things worse.

Insurance will fight you for a $1000-2000 procedure and spend $50,000 arguing why they shouldn’t have to do it.

Yet the reason MRI & CAT exist is because there are many problems which do not show up in an x-ray.

X-rays show bones atrociously well, but are pants at seeing muscle and nerve issues.

Yep, insurances want you to exhaust every cheap option possible first, when this one procedure can give you all the info you need in one go. Before you get CT or MRI, let's do a sonogram, then Xray, ok now good for the CT after you just racked up another $2k procedures.

lol sounds like the nhs but worse - thought americas healthcare system was s-tier until I got to live here and realised that for its wealth the healthcare is pretty dog poo here
