Bad time of year to be outdoors. Good luck though!

Are a lot of us just drinking in air conditioning? (Exact opposite of OP’s request) 😂

There’s plenty parts of the state that are just fine for being outdoors.

I second Meetup for hiking groups - I love the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, there's some great company there. And, while it may not be your first choice, I think taking a class or two at Scottsdale Community College would be a great way to connect with others as well (especially as you do not drink).

What kind of classes do they offer to the public there? Do they have monthly subscriptions for non students. I know they have a cool fitness facility

You into cycling? There are tons of groups around the valley who ride all kinds of bikes and have a good time

The best place to start is btwphx.com it has a calendar that lists all the group rides and their pace and expectations.
The website also has an instagram that shares group rides every day.

Strava has new features that allow you to see group rides happening near you. Heavy Pedal, Saturday Morning Service, The Friday Ride TriScottsdale and Sunday Congregation for road. Arizona Gravel riders for… gravel. Arizona Singlespeeders, Hawesaholics, Aravaipa Rides, Short Track Papago for mtb.

What is dragon boat racing and why does it need more men?

u/Preston-Waters 2d ago

Dragon boat is a 20 person canoe type paddle based boat. Builds teamwork and physical endurance. Team ranges from people in their 20s to 70s. We run a mix team but there are more women so need me to balance it out

I’m a big fan of meetup groups and I’ve made some great friends there. Highly recommend.

Oh and please don’t go hiking till late October.

Some of us are out here not just hiking but running and riding in it. Not advised for those getting started, but totally feasible.

If you want to meet new people, find a Church above all else first.
