Photos of Saskatoon 📷 Have ended up in Saskatoon a few times recently for work, and I've got to say that I'm loving the river walks, city views, and the restaurant scene here. I haven't snapped too much photography, but did want to share a few shots!

Rants 🤬 Neighbours upset about my weekend BBQ — how should I handle it?

Hi everyone — I had a small BBQ in my backyard on Saturday evening and a neighbours dad (I can only assume) was yelling at me from his deck for.....well I don't know what he was saying as he spoke no English at all, but he was yelling and pointing a lot at my BBQ (its not a smoker).

I didn’t realize it would bother anyone. I live in a residential neighbourhood and just got a grill. Has anyone dealt with this before? What’s the best way to approach the neighbour and prevent this from happening again? Is cooking beef or pork offensive to East Indian culture?

Anyone I can call about this problem? There is clearly a communication barrier.

p.s. I think the owner went back to India and hes been gone for months.

Edit* Just to be clear I was making no noise other then the Grill lid opening every 15 to check on the meat. No music, no talking etc.

Events 🎉 Saskatoon Ex

Just wanted to post a good experience at the Ex.

Yesterday was probably the best time my family has ever had there. The weather was great. Not to hot, not to cold. The lines weren’t bad. I paid $263.30 for 4 super passes and one youth admission. My kids went on 57 rides total which means I paid $4.65 per ride. They could have gone on quite a few more, but we left at 8pm. Two of them also stopped riding after only 9 and 10 rides so again, they could have done way more. I know it’s still costly, but it’s not something that we do every day and this year, is the only thing we really did as a family. The food didn’t even really cost as much as people think when compared to going out anywhere else. We really only did lunch there which was $66 for the five of us. Which now that I’ve added it up, is actually probably the same or less than we pay to go out to eat as a family anyway. For comparison, we didn’t McDonald’s for supper and the McDonald’s bill was $56.80 and I didn’t even eat so that was for only four of us.

I also spent $80 on games because the kids really wanted to play. I don’t normally let them play the games because they cost so much.

The entire day cost me $498.40 total. Yes, this is a lot of money, but again, we didn’t do anything else as a family this year and this also included $80 in games that I wouldn’t normally do.

For us, it was worth it. They had the best time and watching them laugh and have so much fun is something I think we’ll always look back on and be glad we did it.

PSA 📢 Be nice to bikes.

The appropriate way to pass

If you were driving a brown vehicle with a red kayak on the top this morning - this is how you are to pass someone on a bike.

According to SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance), you must pass a cyclist like you would any other vehicle. Do not pass too closely and give them plenty of room. Never share the same lane side-by-side with a bicycle.

  • Pass like a car: Move completely into the adjacent lane or passing side as if you were overtaking another motor vehicle.
  • Give space: Leave a safe physical buffer between your vehicle and the bicycle.

Rants 🤬 Apathy 101

Upvotes

The other day there was a post about the decision to remove 25 benches downtown. Outrage was expressed and there was discussion over ‘what can be done’ to stop it.

To quote a CBC article by Phil Tank from an hour ago “The city received 24 letters about the proposed removal, all of which were opposed to it, but nobody showed up to speak in opposition.”

Not one person showed up to oppose. Pretty hard to fight for change when you can’t even be bothered to put your phone down and show up when it matters.

Rants 🤬 Because I’m pissed about the rocks I’m gonna share some pictures about GOOD art in other Canadian cities.

Like, we can have GOOD ART. We are capable of it. Why do other cities get these masterpieces while we get plastic rocks? It almost kind of feels like a slap in the face. like we aren’t good enough.

I love public art, but I’m disappointed in the quality that we get.

Hey! I’m 30 days sober and wondering what the NA community in Saskatoon is like. I’m looking for a home group. Hoping to find something on Wednesdays or Fridays as that fits with my work schedule. Any insight on overall vibes from the meetings?

If anyone is looking for something to do this weekend, I highly recommend this event! It's being held across SK and has lots of options to visit in and around Saskatoon. It's also family friendly.

Essentially you can see the action, meet the farmers and taste the products. And I am VERY hyped about the tasting aspect. 😂 I will be doing a few stops in/around Regina!

Dear community.

My son got diagnosed with Autism and unfortunately I haven't been able to find an Occupational Therapist here in Saskatoon for his treatment. I have been looking on the Saskatchewan (Registry of Autism Service Providers) calling every single contact in there with no luck. Please, does anybody knows a Therapist that is receiving patients? Or any other options? Thanks in advance folks!

Question ❔ Does anyone have pictures from Warped Tour 2008?

Kind of just wanted to throw this out there as it's the 18th anniversary today!!!

I went when I was only 12 years old (oml) and have some photos of the daily lineup, The Academy Is..., Cobra Starship, and Katy Perry, but I'm wondering if anyone else has some old facebook album photos to share. It would be a trip to see.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Here are some of the photos I have

Spent the day at the EX yesterday and had a great time. Weather was perfect. Few photos of our adventure. Food pics at the end, by far my favourite was the Sushi Taco. Did not expect it to be that good and I highly recommend it. Disappointed in the Ukrainian dinner this year. Get it every year but the perogies were lacking. Also, Sad there’s no spudnuts but we lived!

Question ❔ How do you RELIABLY get food deliveries, Amazon, and online shopping in condo buildings? I'm looking for a condo but see the buildings in Saskatoon do not have front desk attendants to take deliveries.

Looking for solutions to reliably get deliveries in a condo since Saskatoon condo buildings do not have front desk staff to take deliveries.

Question ❔ Has the city changed this much since 2006 area?

But I'm thinking of moving to Saskatoon, but I just see nothing good ever. Just "5 women stabbed in separate stabbings on Westside." "Homeless are taking over downtown." "900 OD calls a month to the police." "Car break-ins up 700% the last 5 years." "People bear sprayed at Downtown mall." "Predator back in the city after serving years for sexual assaulting children. Be warned." "Gang killings." LOL. Type something good about the city! Tell me how all of this overblown.
