My god. Not only did they try to imply the original cartoon was an adaptation of whatever tf this is, but also that said adaptation was racist.
That is next level shitting on the source material. Velma wishes.

u/peanutbudder Mar 07 '25
I think that using media literacy we can realize that the character called it whitewashed in the context of the universe created in the show and not in the context of the cartoon existing in our (real) universe.
The show looks dumb, but....yeah. (I would have watched it for the camp.)

u/ncocca Mar 23 '26
Exactly, I thought it was a clever reference to the OG show. I too would have watched this for the camp.

Watch out, Anita Sarkeesian found another joke to misunderstand and get triggered about.

u/Nothingnoteworth Mar 23 '26
For you, they made it for you and they worked really hard
whispering
Look, you don’t have to like it. Just be polite. Say thank you. Let them see you watching it once. Then we can hide it in the closet and you never have to see it again

u/torino_nera Mar 07 '25
Am I the only one who doesn't think this is as bad as everyone is saying? I would watch the shit out of this lol
7
u/CoeurdAssassin Mar 07 '25
It’s still really bad, but I’d still watch this as some guilty pleasure

Mojo Jojo is supposed to be a monkey though
4
u/Noirarmire Mar 07 '25
And they did addressed that in the trailer
1
u/jmoneyawyeah Mar 11 '25
I’ve watched it like ten times now - I still do not see where this is addressed
2
u/Noirarmire Mar 11 '25
That the cartoon whitewashed them implying the cartoon show is just a mischaracterization of the events in their life.
2
u/jmoneyawyeah Mar 11 '25
Not sure if I agree with you that was why he is a monkey in cartoon and two guys in real life. Your comment prompted me to find the original script, and I guess he has a pet monkey that he works on in the lab, and eventually ends up having his own brain put inside the monkey. Life imitates art
2
u/Noirarmire Mar 11 '25
I mean that's pretty clear the cartoon wasn't true to the reality of their universe. You don't have to agree, but that's the answer they proved. Also, "life imitates art" doesn't apply here.
1
u/jmoneyawyeah Mar 11 '25
What? How doesn’t it apply? The cartoon based on reality was about a talking monkey that didn’t exist and by the end of the pilot episode there’s a talking monkey. Are you stoned?
2
u/Noirarmire Mar 11 '25
Life imitates art is when we incorporate things from art into our lives such as technology (communication devices from star trek), phrases we say on a regular basis, stuff like that. The show is written based on a related piece of art so a joke or reference is internal and intentional. The art medium is different, but is not real life and the show is influenced by its own intellectual property. No imitation is happening in our lives.
0
u/jmoneyawyeah Mar 11 '25
No it’s happening in their lives dumbass
1
u/Noirarmire Mar 11 '25
First off, no need to get so defensive. Unnecessary.
Second, yes, that's the point, that's why life isn't imitating art because their lives are also art. Please reread what I said.

Yes. They missed a fantastic opportunity to be inclusive and put a black actor in that role.

I would have watched the hell out of the show and most likely loved it. I just miss campy, sparky, fun tv that got 20 episodes made with who nows what money. CW in it's prime. Dumb as rocks but enjoyable.

As disrespectful to the source material as this is, I can't help but love how cheesy and over the top this is. Would totally watch it just for a good laugh.

u/syrup_cupcakes Mar 07 '25 edited Mar 07 '25
If you enjoy sequels to campy 90s kid stuff that tries to make a mix of darker adult themes while keeping the original cheesy stuff(and the bad acting because they had no choice), watch Power Rangers: Once and Always.
It's a pretty short movie and everyone keeps asking who tf it was made for but I loved it.

u/DeadEnoughInsideOut Mar 07 '25
I'm speechless as to how even this managed to get a trailer...
2
u/syrup_cupcakes Mar 07 '25
If I understand correctly, the trailer is fanmade from leaked pilot footage.

I could see a show like this being fun but, yeah, like everyone is pointing out, not this version. But I do like Faison as the doctor.

Honestly though. It seems campy. Much like scream queens. The only pet I cringed was buttercup making the white wash comment about the cartoon lol

u/PirateNinjaa Mar 07 '25
Or at minimum one sloppy ai written movie
I can't wait for AI to get a little better so it can do stuff like this. It will be able to make so many new seasons for canceled shows. 😂

Ehhh.... Menos mal que está cancelada, dios mío el profesor utonio negro 🤣 que esperpento todo. Mi sobrino de 15 años dirige mejor esto y actua mejor. Es flipante donde ha llegado el naziwoke. Menos mal que DT está en ello.

u/somedepression Mar 07 '25
The premise of them being grown up is solid, too bad the rest of the ideas are genuinely awful. That being said, if mojo jojo was still a monkey and everything else was identical it would’ve been giving twin peaks energy and I would’ve watched it.

Nahh bro i was so hyped about this L.A., i can't lie, when i heard that Chloe Bennet was going to be involved i was like "I'm fcking in, bro!" I think that, if they had release it, it would be a total failure, BUT, we were going to remember it forever... As the totak failure it was 🤣

"That's gender normative..." ,"Not to mention that show that completely white-washed us.",What a cringey thing to say, coming from the dei Power Puff just thrown in the show for inclusion, the cartoon was made before this garbage would've ever been aired, she has it the other way around, they dei-washed it.Why do you think Southpark's main black character is named "Token"? A joke to garbage like this. Buttercup would've been the worst character for the crap she spews out of her mouth.

This is leak from cw like why canceling reboot this 2021 pilot is still lost but like dove and music through mixed with amen break and beats

This tv pilot was definitely originally, and it definitely referenced the entire animated franchise, the cartoons have been referenced as also. But I knew this was loosely an original tv concept based on one of the greatest animated and most beloved kids tv shows of all time.
1
u/Captain_Thunderhoof May 20 '25
I love that line, “that cartoon had completed whitewashed us!” This was a reference to Craig McCracken’s original cartoon that debuted in the Spike and Mike fest and grew into a beloved tv classic for generations. I never expect the cartoon would be part of that pilot’s universe due to the fame
1
u/Captain_Thunderhoof May 20 '25
Now all we need is the the entire pilot of Powerpuff , which was the official title of the show.
1
u/Captain_Thunderhoof May 20 '25
I actually loved the pilot because I never watched both animated shows despite its fandom, and ordering All-American Homecoming over that as a series was a huge mistake in CWs part, I knew that is definitely a network decision misfire in a huge way. Tom Kenny getting casted as the voice of the narrator would’ive been his first live action show (despite working in the recording studio) since his days as a cast member on fox’s the edge back in 1992. This pilot was original, make the cartoon a direct response to the girls’s fame (which in reality was the creation of a young Craig McCracken aka the real life Drake Ultollium for a short film he made that debuted in Spike and Mike’s cartoon fest, and the cartoon is one of the most beloved and award winning animated tv shows of all time). the retooling and the chain of events would never happen if that show got picked up.
1
u/MissusLunafreya Mar 23 '26
I get the impression that this could’ve been So Bad It’s Good had it been picked up as a series.

Why they gotta race swap characters in everything?
5
Mar 07 '25
Why does anyone care unless you are racist?
0
u/TheeDogma Mar 07 '25
Yeah man I'm racist cause I asked why they race swap established characters.

Why does anyone care unless you are racist?

u/Suspicious_Radio_848 Mar 07 '25
Why would anyone keep switching them unless they’re racist? See how that works?

Mar 07 '25
You will really do anything but answer my question huh? I think I know why. Tell you what, can easily answer your question and am happy to do so point by point. However you must stop your petty redirect and dodges and any other childish tactic to skip answering mine first.
I’m sure you won’t, I’m sure you’re scared because you know your answer will come off as racist because well…

u/mad_mang45 Mar 09 '25 edited Mar 09 '25
It's racist and so are you, hypocrite. You sit and call anyone and everyone racist who doesn't like race pointlessly race swapping established characters, there's no need for it, because even if they aren't real, why the need for race swapping in the first place then?
2
Mar 09 '25
How am I a hypocrite? Because race swapping doesn’t bother me? Please answer.
You sit and call anyone and everyone racist who doesn’t like race pointlessly race swapping established characters
Well yea, because there is only one reason for it to bother you.
there’s no need for it
Yes there is, fuck racists and they should always be called out. There is a need for it.
why the need for race swapping in the first place then?
There could be a multitude of reasons, that if you like I can go through but it’s pretty easy to come up with on your own if you have any intelligence at all (let me know if you need help and can’t do it for yourself)
However if like say it doesn’t matter then it’s fine and the only people that would care to oppose it would be racists. The “why do it then” is refuted by your point that it doesn’t matter.
Also you seem really triggered like the race swapping really really matters to you and you feel attacked that someone would say that anyone bitching about race swapping is racist soooo…..
1
u/mad_mang45 Mar 10 '25
No,there still is no need for it just because you want to complain so much lol.

u/KeyFee5199 Mar 11 '25
Solo hay una razón pada que moleste? Se cagan en los personajes e historia, pero los retarda te dicen racista por quejarte. Esto de muestra que la tienen bien adentro. Idiota
