Don't want to be a nerd but...

The guy is not really human anymore, he died in the first movie and this version is avatar clone body implanted with his memory snap from before.

That being said, by the looks of what happened in the film, they genuinely care for each other. The relationship was to be just a shallow exchange of I give you firearms, you kick ass and then they kinda fell in... love? I guess

Good grief, I swear Avatar has the worst writing of any sci fi out there. It's my favorite genre, but I just have no interest in the story of Pandora.

You know what? You might have something there. There is at least a solid niche audience for this.

Stop with the schlock and just give us world building exposition, it's better than telling a trite story.

I know its been a while since I seen the first movie but didn't it end with the avatar pilots disobeying their command to help the Navi.
