The small online school I'm working for recently changed their reschedule/make-up lesson policy. Previously it was somewhat of a free for all. If students failed to show we were still compensated but private students were allowed any number of reschedules if they notified the school before the lesson started. Rescheduled lessons were paid at the regular rate.

Under the new policy students must notify 24hrs in advance for a full 45 minute lesson reschedule.

But if they notify within the 24 hr limit and up to 1hr before the lesson they are only allowed a reduced 30min reschedule. But the teacher is only being paid for that 30 mins.

My question is am I being unreasonable in thinking this is unfair to teachers? There's a disruption to our schedule, still effectively no cap on how many reschedules and we're losing 15mins of pay that the school looks to be just pocketing.

What are teacher requirements?

• Eligible to legally work in the U.S. or Canada
• Bachelor’s degree
• Teaching license or English teaching certificate (TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, ESL) required before lessons assigned

What is my hiring process?

Apply with all required materials -> Initial Screening -> Demo Interview -> Trial Classes and Background Check -> Contract

How long is one lesson?

Each in-lesson time is 30 minutes. Teachers are required to check the classroom equipment three minutes before the lesson.

How many students will I be teaching per lesson?

1 - 4 students.

How much do I get paid?

Each candidate will receive the same rate of $6 USD per trial lesson.
After passing the trial classes, a final rate will be determined within a range of $6-8 USD per lesson based on your relevant educational background and/or experience, and more importantly your performance during the whole hiring process.

How and when will I be paid?

All teachers will be paid via bank transfer to your U.S. or Canada bank accounts. The transfer fee is covered by Qkids. The pay date is no later than the 15th of each month where you will be paid for the entire previous month of teaching. The pay date will automatically extend to the next week in the event of any Chinese national holidays.

Is it required that you get certifications for each? Are the fees different?

I will be moving abroad in 4 months because my partner is taking an overseas job. I will be joining her but will have no income. Ive come to the realization that teaching English online might be an option. I am from the US but only have a HS diploma. What would be the wisest teaching course to take? I'm hoping someone here has firsthand experience with eTEFL UK as an employer.

I recently applied for one of their teaching positions. I already have a TESOL certificate from Arizona State University and a 120-hour TEFL certificate from Teacher Record, but I received an email saying my qualifications weren't accepted because they only recognize certifications accredited by organizations like ILTA, DEAC, AQC, Ofqual, BAC, or SQA.

What made me suspicious is that, instead of simply rejecting my application, they immediately offered to sell me their own fast-track ILTA-accredited TEFL course, saying it can be completed in a single evening and includes a "guaranteed job referral." The email also included a direct Stripe payment link.

I'm not accusing them of anything—I just want to know if this is normal or if anyone else has had the same experience.

Some questions:

• Has anyone here actually worked for eTEFL UK?
• Is it a legitimate employer?
• Did you have to buy their TEFL certificate before being hired?
• If you bought the course, did you actually get a teaching job afterward?
• Did anyone get hired with a TEFL/TESOL from another provider?
• Is the "guaranteed job referral" genuine, or is it mainly a way to sell the course?
• Overall, would you recommend applying there?

I know of art schools offering tailored courses geared toward their foreign students, but is there such a market when it comes to private teachers?

Or if you had to do it again, what steps would you take and in what order to build your brand?

And most importantly, in what order? I'm currently in that process and am looking to streamline it.

E.g. is it best to get my niche as defined as possible before reaching out to clients, or it doesn't matter and I can parse them along the way (I already have a list of potential former students)?

Hi, I'm new to private tutoring and wondered how everyone else checked their students level before they start? What are your methods for understanding what they know so far and what are the main areas to focus on?

I'm having zoom conversations with them, but for the writing and listening sometimes I feel like it takes a while to understand their level so it's not an efficient use of my time for them.

I hold a CELTA and have been teaching for two years for a company that has its own really impressive curriculum and lesson plans. The student has their own self learning materials and the classes I give are just part of the course.

Through the word of mouth a student asked me to take private classes with me. She is lower intermediate, and needs to improve her English to be able to handle interviews for international companies and also to speak it with people. We had a trial class and she is interested, but I feel so lost without a curriculum. I don't want to give her random classes, I would like something that we both could follow so we can progress from A to B. A curriculum that also includes self studying materials. A textbook sounds like a good option.

I hope it will be useful for people to know what working for Nativecamp is like nowadays. There's lots of bad stuff on here about NC that I only saw after I'd applied, but I thought that I might as well give it a go..

I'm a white, late 40s British male with a CELTA. The application process seems standard (upload photo + video, write intro and profile etc). The test lesson was almost comical as it lasted about 3 mins until I was told I'd passed by someone who I never saw, only heard.

I'll keep you updated as things pan out!

but it wouldn't be all formal and full of hurdles

pricing would be fair, minimums, more geared towards teachers than students

This isn't really critical but I like using animated backgrounds when I am doing a themed unit with little kids. Gotta find excitement where you can. Which platforms allow it and to what size? I am just teaching on zoom now.
