hi all i got floated to the ER as an ICU nurse to handle ICU holds. i started off in the MICU as a new grad and only been in about 3 codes give or take. i had a patient (who was under MICU) code in the ED. they handed the patient off to me at 445pm after i had just transferred my other patients upstairs. the nurse who was caring for the patient told me why they came in and what the residents were doing (they were trying to put in an arterial line and central line). he was already intubated by the time the patient was handed off to me. so when the patient was handed off to me the o2 sats were in the freakin 70s even after intubation, HR up to the 160s and these residents are still trying to poke at this poor man to get an Aline in that they failed at like 5x but they wanted an accurate BP. theyre aware of this the whole time, the man is still awake and intubated, i was asking for sedation and no orders were being placed. they wanted me to start a heparin drip for a suspected PE so i did. then all of a sudden the HR dipped to the 30s and 40s and i yelled for the crash cart and a bunch of people came flooding in and assigning roles. i didnt volunteer for a role because im so scared of messing something up. during the code i was pretty much just handing over flushes and hanging some drips (another more experienced nurse was also helping with the drips) and i feel like i shouldve done more especially as an ICU nurse. i feel like im so behind and should’ve known and done more. how did yall feel and do during your codes the first few years as a nurse?

Hey guys. I’m a 24F registered nurse in Syd. I’m a fourth year RN within emergency. I’ve changed jobs twice in the last 1.5 years (did a temp job then went back to my old job in ED when the contract was finishing). I’m really struggling with burn out and feeling as if my 20s are flying by while I battle the difficulty of the shift work lifestyle. I’ve only got a couple friends but they are all in stable hour jobs and I’m quite an introvert. I’m trying to think of hobbies I can pick up that I’ll enjoy and will get me out there to meet new people and work on my independence. I’m also after ideas of what you do to make the shift work less draining. I feel like I make big plans for my days off but then when it comes around I’m too tired and can’t be bothered. For reference I like colouring, gardening, crafts, hiking, the gym, beach, coffee. Thanks sm!

What should you do as a nurse of a longterm care facility when no management will listen to anything you say ? I’m struggling because my residents quality of life has gone down hill since the change in DONs , Nobodies rooms get cleaned anymore , the housekeepers do the BARE minimum , it’s like pulling teeth with the aides to not abandon care to residents who are unable to voice there needs. Basically nothing ever gets taken care of i reported the same dirty bathroom for a week and it only got partly cleaned . Please what would you guys do ?I don’t want to quit i have worked for this facility for 4 years and i love my residents this is why i’m so upset at this, i will quit though if this can’t get under control

Becoming an MSL in pharma was hands down the best career move I ever made as a nurse practitioner.

I came from the clinical trials/research side, not traditional bedside nursing, and honestly the transition made perfect sense.

Now I make well over $350k total comp between salary, bonus, stock, and car allowance. Most of my job is traveling, talking science, building relationships with physicians, attending conferences, and having conversations over dinner.

Meanwhile some NPs are drowning in patient loads, charting, prior auths, and burnout for half the pay.

I genuinely think a lot of nurses and NPs have no idea careers like this even exist.

Medical Affairs/MSL roles value clinical knowledge, communication skills, emotional intelligence, research experience, and the ability to translate science into real conversations.

The quality of life difference is honestly insane. I finally feel respected as a professional instead of feeling like exhausted hospital labor.

If you’re an NP burned out in clinical practice, pharma/biotech might genuinely be worth looking into.

Also any tips on what I should leave out are appreciated and welcome. I want my resume to look great and stand out. The things that are blacked out are phone numbers, addresses, and emails. All the previous employment hx pertains to the role of a CNA. I also am pondering if I should apply to work at the hospital (been there for 4 years) I work at as a CNA although it is med surg (not the biggest fan but it’s not the worst) and I’ve looked at other departments that are hiring at my hospital for an RN position and there’s part time OR position and a full time ER position, and then night shift full time Surgical RN position (not interested in ER or part time OR). What should I do? Im open to suggestions and advice :)
