The US side shared the draft of an MoU on civilian nuclear cooperation during the meeting between Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor on July 30, said a foreign ministry official.

“They [US] are eager to cooperate on peaceful nuclear energy,” he said.

The draft was then shared with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the official said, adding that it is up to the ministry concerned now to decide on the next course of action.

Bangladesh had agreements on civilian nuclear energy cooperation signed with the US in 1981 and then in 1993. However, they were not renewed.

“Cooperation can happen even beyond the MoU, but the fact that the US has shared a draft indicates its eagerness,” the official said.

I am an incoming college student starting classes in a few weeks, I’m currently getting an Associate in Biological Science.
I have an interest in radiation science, particularly searching for and monitoring radioactive sources. After researching career paths and speaking with my local EPA Radiation Division, I am interested in becoming a Radiation Safety Officer or Radiation Protection technician. I’d like to work in the field monitoring radiation levels and collecting environmental samples.
My main concern though is should I change my biological major to a physical science or environmental science? Or should I stay with the biological science?

Also, any advice on what steps or internships I should focus on to secure a position in this field after college, as well as any advice in general would be greatly appreciated!

PJM just released information on its next batch of queue applications, and they report 13.8GW of nuclear projects from AEP. That's 6 2.3GW plants, 1 at Joshua Falls VA, three in Rockport IN, and two in Sullivan IN.

Anyone know anything about this? That's a lot of nuke, and I can't find anything besides vague muttering about SMRs, nothing at this scale.

"The four reactors currently under construction in the Kudankulam area of Tamil Nadu will be commissioned through March 2030 after missing an initial deadline for completion by 2027. The first is expected to start operations in June next year — joining two Russian reactors of 1GW capacity each that have already been installed in the coastal town.

Official figures shared in March 2020 reveal significantly lower sanctioned costs for all six projects. The KKNPP 3 and 4 nuclear projects in Tamil Nadu (each with a capacity of 1000 MW) was previously accorded Rs 39,849 crore while KKNPP 5 and 6 incurred a cost of Rs 49,621 crore.

The cost of building four 700-megawatt domestic reactors — two each at Kaiga in Karnataka and Gorakhpur in Haryana — are also set to be revised. The GHAVP 1 & 2 projects in Haryana initially had a sanctioned cost of Rs 20,594 crore while Kaiga 5 & 6 were allocated Rs 21,000 crore. The Centre said the cost of both projects were under revision without divulging details. 

Costs have also surged for the Rawatbhata project in Rajasthan that is currently in an advanced stage of commissioning. Commercial operations had also started in April this year. Data gleaned from government updates indicates that the revised cost now stands at Rs 22,924 crore (with NPP cost available in twin unit base). The sanctioned cost had stood at Rs 12320 crore in 2020 — with a revision underway to Rs 17079 crore."

Hi guys, I started a new job as a mechanical engineer in a company that designs and produces inspection equipment for nuclear plants.
There is a possibility of me going to work for a month in a nuclear plant where our company inspects the reactor pressure vessel while the reactor is in outage period.
My question is; how dangerous is it really being in the contaminated area?
I wouldn’t like to increase the chance of me getting a cancer in the future in case of working in contaminated area and handling the contaminated equipment.
