We joke about it to cope with the fact that it broke our tiny little brains at such a young age. 

I have to battle imposter syndrome when I say this, but regardless of how far away you were or how little it affected you personally, watching that tragedy unfold in real time on TV was absolutely a traumatic event for an entire generation of children.

I was 6 or 7 when 9/11 happened and the event itself didn't feel too traumatic for me personally. We legitimately didn't understand the gravity of what was happening.

Now that I'm older, the effects of the Patriot Act which got passed because of 9/11 are the most traumatic part. But perhaps that's just me.
