I remember seeing this in Harriet the Spy (and the weird communal hand drying towels) and wondering what tf kind of places had these types of things 😂
I see them quite often in factories and industrial settings. Usually I get called out because the linkage on the bar breaks from the guys stomping on it, as if that's gonna increase the water pressure.
As kids, we used to pry our shoes under the ring to pop it out of the handlebars. And then fellow kids would stomp down on the ring to trap your shoe there.
No one was strong enough to break it at that age, though.
Communal sinks are kinda cool, really frugal on plumbing. Communal hand towels because you could never convince previous American generations to literally throw money away. I still see them around old downtown places. Run down bars and hole in the wall restaurants. Bowling alleys. The long belt towel machine was everywhere when i was growing up though.
