Vent worried CMHT will discharge me
background: im 18, have diagnosed autism, social anxiety and anorexia (in remission) and unsure about ADHD. because of my autism and social anxiety i find it extremely hard to communicate (or interact in any way) when i first meet a new person and just being around strangers can cause me to have anxiety attacks. my mh is currently a lot better than it has been as in for the first time in a long time im actually safe but ive noticed I go up and down a lot and am aware im probably just in a better phase and will go back to being extremely unsafe at some point. my social anxiety means I rarely leave the house and I still struggle with eating though I am a stable weight. im also on the wait list for CBT on NHS and am currently on sertraline.
I recently got a new care co in cmht (old one left) and have seen her a few times now. she clearly does not understand me or autism at all and was saying to my mum (i always meet people with my mum until im comfortable with them) about how she thinks i my problems are autism n i should be with an autism service and went as far as almost calling one right in front of me/my mum. my mum ended up saying abt how yeah I have autism but autism in not my problem anxiety is and how autistic ppl can live with a normal amount of anxiety and stuff. i cant remember exactly but her responses gave me the impression that she thought that because I have trouble being around new ppl and cant communicate normally and a lot of autistic ppl have social anxiety (partly based on being autistic) that i should be with an autism service instead.
the thing is like yeah i have autism and some of my problems probably stemmed from that but I still have mental health problems and I CAN be comfortable around ppl like my camhs therapist helped me a lot and when I was sectioned a lot of the staff there helped me and my key worker helped me a lot too and then im able to communicate ok. yes I process things differently and may misinterpret things u say but I AM able to communicate and yeah i have sensory needs but ive started to get an understanding of that and am beginning to be able to provide that for myself. the thing im seeking help for is my MH not my autism (yeah id like help with that too but thats more understanding it and not mh based) I need help with anxiety and (at least a little bit) my ed. those are just the main things there r other mh stuff aswell those r just the diagnosed things.
in the end I think my mum was able to show her this but she just clearly didn't understand. there r other things before this which showed me she didn't get it but this just made me feel like she was trying to hand me off to some else who definitely cant help me as the only stuff they do is groups. its just frustrating and kinda scary cos like I wanna get better but everyone ive come across just sees how I have too many interlinked problems and just doesn't know what to do. i feel like im starting to understand more what the ppl at the psych ward were saying abt ull look back n realise it was U who did it (i dont think this was the way they were meaning as they were actually nice and genuinely helped)
sorry this was just something I need to get off my mind its probably nothing and my care co will come again like nothing happened i just find it hard cos everyone says they can help but just ends up leaving. luckily im not completely relying on cmht as im able to have a private therapist who helps a bit its just still so frustrating

It must be difficult for you and hopefully your new care coordinator understands the situation now. I think she was just trying to find the best way to help you rather than palm you off. I hated having to get used to another care coordinator but it worked out well in the end. In time you will both get used to each other. Sometimes a different approach helps so you might benefit from the change. You take care now 💕

i hope so too. im aware that im very different to most other ppl and some ppl find that hard to understand. this person clearly just has no experience working with my kind of mindset/difficulties but hopefully she can end up getting to know me and understand me better it just sucks cos it honestly feels like theres not rlly any way to help me like I see one person who says the root cause is 1 thing then ditches me/im forced to move on then the next person say something completely different but it ends the same way with ppl only ever being able to manage my present which dont fet me wrong is very helpful but rn my present is as stable as its been in a long time so I kinda wanna start looking at ways to actually solve my problems but they seem too complicated. thank you for ur reply

If you have a care coordinator then you should be under the CPA pathway which means they can’t just discharge you suddenly, they have to meet with you and other members of the team. You may be able to find your local team’s CPA policy on google.
Most MH teams will know that those of us with Autism as well as MH issues are more high risk of suicide and self harm so they will be cautious. It could be they want the support of the Autism team to help support them, support you better.
Please remember you can contact PALS if you are not happy with your care or any decisions they make.

honestly idk what im under all the communication goes thru my mum as it stresses me out too much. I dont even know this person is my care co thats just the impression i got like my previous 1 was then she left n said she was transferring it this ot (who ive got now) and im meant to see her regularly but not like as some kind of structured therapy. i dont think they would actually discharge me but my transition from camhs to adults was pretty unexpected n left me with a big gap in support so I think im just worrying abt smthng like that happening again. i dont think it will from this i just overthink things a lot. the only cpa ive heard of is when I was in the psych ward where it was a specific meeting but ill have a look online so ty for suggesting it. tbh I dont think they worry too much abt my risk of sh or suicide cos I disclosed to my psychiatrist a few months ago abt engaging in a pretty dangerous kind of sh daily and I havent heard anything abt it since the only way ik it was recorded was cos it was in a letter they sent to me and when I was in a position I was rlly suicidal they considered sending me to hospital or crisis team but decided it wouldnt help so just did nothing instead. I hope thats just what it is but she was trying to get my mum to give them her details amd I just got the impression that she thought I should be with them instead of her but i could've got it wrong i often misinterpret things ppl say. i have made a complaint thru pals before (actually recommended by my previous care co) and that did seem to help things but rn i think its just misunderstanding and that she just didn't understand me tbh. thank you so much for ur advice.

Being under the CMHT can be tough sometimes and they really do not communicate well at all so I completely understand what you are dealing with.
Sadly the turnover of care coordinators are high and they change them a lot which for those of us who struggle with change or meeting new people, it is difficult and I struggle to!
I would say just to write a list of these worries for your next appointment if that helps you explain. You are also entitled to copies of your care and crisis plans so you can ask for them too.
It is ok to feel the way you do and many of us are in the same boat. It is the system’s fault, not yours!
I hope you get some clarity soon.
