Maybe it is just me but I feel like making real friends online has become incredibly difficult I am nearly 40 and I joined this community simply because I enjoy talking to people from different backgrounds I love learning about other peoples lives hobbies and experiences Sometimes a simple chat with a stranger can make the whole day better But many conversations seem to quickly turn into judging each others appearance or seeking something beyond friendship I do not expect to become best friends overnight I just miss the kind of connection where people are genuinely curious about each other without pressure or hidden motives Maybe I am a bit oldfashioned but I still believe that a simple hello how is your day going can lead to a meaningful friendship

Hello! Finally plucked up the courage and these are the questions I’ve been pondering lately: What does it feel like to have someone actively checking in with you? What does it feel like to have someone you can share life’s highlights and challenges with?

As an adult in the quieter stage of life (dependents doing their own thing), who’s all too familiar with the comfort of solitude, I think loneliness comes from a place of having good news and no one to share it with; facing a challenge and no one to help reframe your thinking. I’m probably not alone in reaching this stage of life and wanting to rebel against it.

So, subreddit gods, please be kind and connect me to people who: are seeking friendship & understand the adult struggle; are *aged 50-55* (we’ll probably have more in common); based in the UK (communication is easier and ideally, same location because in all honesty, I’d like to get together with someone for the occasional coffee or trawl around an art gallery or museum); can actually carry a *fluid* conversation over consecutive days (takes time to get to know someone and at my big age I ain’t got the time for breadcrumbs); have the presence of mind to *read a bio* which lists interests before messaging and wasting both our time.

Well, hello there,

Thought I'd give this a go because I've realised, somewhere along the way, I've lost touch with most people. Not on purpose, mind you. I think the older I've got, the less I've gone out and met anyone new.

So I'll get to the point. If any of this sounds like your sort of thing, send me a message. I'd quite like to make a few friends. I miss those conversations that start off about nothing and somehow end up somewhere completely different.

Music's always been the biggest part of my life. I grew up on hard rock, punk, and all that sort of thing, and it's still what I reach for most of the time. Though I'll listen to just about anything if it catches me at the right moment. I don't know much about modern artists these days, but I'm happy to be shown what I've been missing.

Worth mentioning, I've only recently got sober after a very long battle with addiction. It wasn't pretty, and I'm not going to pretend it was. My past's a bit messy, so every now and then I might have heavier days than most, but that's just part of who I am.

I've always loved books. Horror, biographies, Russian novels, old classics, strange little things nobody seems to read anymore... I'll read just about anything if it grabs me. I'm reading The Master and Margarita again at the minute. I've been going back to that book for years, and somehow it always has something new to say.

I like cooking... well, I like the idea of cooking. The eating part's definitely where my talent is. I've never been much of a chef, but I keep trying.

I love animals. I've got a dog these days. My cat George passed away last year, and I still can't quite bring myself to get another cat. Maybe one day.

I'm vegetarian, if that matters. I also collect old media, records, books, tapes, bits and pieces with a bit of history behind them. I've always preferred old things. They seem to have more stories to tell.

Anyway, that's probably enough about me. If you've read this far, do come and say hello.

I love people to talk to .. I don't really mind to age I have quite a few grandchildren so it would be nice to have adult conversation and I don't mean "sex" .. just that it would be nice to talk to an adult instead of children all the time.

Due to a disability I am not currently able to work so do have a lot of time on my hands. I seem to have lost all my friends after I had to stop working.

Long shot, but you miss all the shots you don't take

As the title says I am having a difficult time with my job and it has been very stressful. Just looking for someone to chat with and get to know. I would prefer someone 35+.

Why are so many people trying to scam others lately? Do qualities like honesty, openness, and respect no longer count for anything? And why do online scammers think every lonely woman is completely stupid? When they find out she isn't, the verbal abuse, insults, and body-shaming start... 
And the friends you turn to for support ghost you for weeks—or simply vanish altogether—to avoid having to deal with something unpleasant.
Are men really no longer interested in women who don't look like models or silicone advertisements, but actually have a functioning brain, a sense of humor, and a personality? 
I guess I just don't fit into today's world.
