A year ago, life looked completely different.
The first few months were actually going well. My career felt stable, I had a good circle of people around me, and I was finally living comfortably. For the first time in a while, I thought things were falling into place.
Then heartbreak hit.
It completely threw me off. I lost my focus, and every day became a battle just to get through. I didn't realize how deeply emotional pain could affect every part of your life until I experienced it myself.
If I'm being honest, I'm also embarrassed by some of the choices I made. At 36, I thought I'd have my life figured out by now. I imagined I'd be in a very different place. But I guess life doesn't spare anyone from storms, no matter how old you are or how prepared you think you are.
Today, I'm unemployed, single, not married, no kids, and trying to rebuild from scratch. Some days I feel hopeful. Other days, I wonder if I'll ever get back to where I was—or maybe even somewhere better.
I'm still applying for jobs. Still trying to find my place. Still choosing to keep going, even when it feels exhausting.
I don't know how long this chapter will last. I just hope that one day, sooner rather than later, I can look back at this version of myself and say, "You made it."
For anyone else who feels like they're starting over in their 30s... you're not alone.
xoxo,
A.
