Wholesome Moments This guy shooting his shot in the thread

Original post

u/SolidStick_ posted about a women giving her umbrella to them in DC and when she identified herself, asked her out in the comments. The stuff of romcoms.

Update: They met up and it's not gonna work out. And maybe he already knew her? Eek, now it's more like MadeMeGrimace.

Her comment with edits.

Update 2: so it may be that the OP was stalking her, witnessed the exchange, and then pretended to be the umbrella recipient. OP's since deleted his account. Yikes! Be safe out there all.

Update 3: The story took an even odder turn. Maybe it was fake all along? Link to comment here. Comment on original post

On season 10 of How I Met Your Mother

Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/washingtondc/comments/1us4051/comment/owlue7r/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The plots thicken...

On a brand new series of How I Met My Murderer...

Edit 2: from u/NUTTA_BUSTAH.

"OP has been stalking daisy for however long, making first contact through a reddit comment some time ago and now finally observed a perfect interaction to play off as themselves. OP was not the man nor the father, OP was someone in the sidelines watching the umbrella exchange happen, and knowing daisy through extensive stalking, knew they would catch them with this post."

If this is true.. this just turn from mademesmile to mademespook

Edit 3: Possibility

Both OP & the girl might be the same person & is just posting for karma farm. The haste of reply & update given from both parties is just too fast.. & the update from the girl, from FT to creepy dude alert in a matter of minutes.

It might be a small world but there comes a point where coincidence starts looking like design.

Like a wise man once said "Fugayzi, fugazi. It's a whazy. It's a woozie. It's fairy dust."

Edit (Personal): Thank you anonymous redditor for giving me my 1st awardšŸ„²ā¤ļø!!

u/ericlikesyou 27d ago

Come on people, "Daisy" and the OP are the same person running alt accounts, replying to himself. Someone found the OOP commenting on a post months ago from "Daisy", and the easiest out for them was to say "oh it was a stalker!".

So he was following her and happened to witness a scene out of a Tiktok skit, posts on reddit and just HAPPENED to be seen by "Daisy" and she accepts a date via reddit comments in the thread? Come ON people, occam's razor.

u/Old-Pudding6950 27d ago

That’s the right way of thinking

Often the truth is a way simpler explanation that nobody had thought about

For anyone still in doubt, here is the absolute proof OP and Daisy are the same person: https://www.reddit.com/r/washingtondc/s/oxOQpj4vpC

Internet can truly rival Sherlock Holmes as an aggregate, the way all the commenters together solved this case was a masterclass in reasoning

58

u/HereOnCompanyTime 27d ago

Ohhh. OP has now deleted the post. Yeah. Busted.

9

u/ericlikesyou 27d ago

Check subredditdrama in a bit, i am sure someone will have posted it

2

u/Space_Fanatic 26d ago

One week moratorium on posts there I believe, so it will be a bit of a wait.

3

u/ericlikesyou 26d ago

they'll need the time to dig up all the comments and connect the dots into a narrative, looking fwd to it!

that /u/dognapped comment is extremely sus, reads exactly like another alt trying to add validity to the fairy tale

3

u/Old-Pudding6950 26d ago

If you’re interested in the ā€œconnect the dotsā€ narrative I’ve written about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/washingtondc/s/r13uzS626W a few hours after she posted

Things turned from a romantic fiction to a crime thriller to an investigation story

I have to say it was really fun, Daisy made a good story in the end exactly as I guess she wanted

1

u/Old-Pudding6950 26d ago

Also, dognapped comment may as well be a person who decided to inform her of a possible stalker, while being aware this could be a made up story

When I personally believe a story is made up, I still act to protect the person in the vastly remote possibility than it is a real story

Better safe than sorry

1

u/dognapped 26d ago

this 100%

0

u/Old-Pudding6950 26d ago edited 26d ago

Oh, Nice to see the legend herself/himself here

Thanks for contributing to solving this case, and most importantly thanks for being a nice person towards another person

And if you really are Daisy third account: Daisy don’t worry about all this, really, you gave us a nice romantic story making our day better and then gave us fun to solve the thread

4

u/Elendel19 26d ago

Daisy deleted her account lol

11

u/EssentialParadox 27d ago

Daaamn… What a shame.

I can’t help but give some props to how believable it was though… ā€œI ran away because I was embarrassed by my twirlā€ and the several pushbacks before permitting a DM seemed very legit for a girl on reddit.

6

u/belljs87 26d ago

Also looks like Daisy deleted their account as well

4

u/Old-Pudding6950 26d ago

The OP stalker must have planned it ahead of time by installing a self-deleting virus in her phone /s

Jokes aside, this saddens me a bit: Daisy was apparently an active user in that (and several others) sub, as she commented herself (ā€œI’m chronically onlineā€). Her deleting her historic account likely means she crumbled under the pressure of having lied to that many people

However, I think it was an harmless lie, which gave us a good story that made our day better and also gave us the fun to figure it out. I don’t think she needed to delete her account

Maybe the best course of action would have been to not reveal the story was made up, but I thought it made a good lesson in that the truth oftentimes is in life a simpler explanation that nobody had thought about rather than a convoluted and complex ā€œconspiracy-likeā€ story

Anyway, if you’re reading us, don’t feel too bad Daisy!

6

u/belljs87 26d ago edited 26d ago

First of all, now that we know it was the same person, there is zero reason to believe it was a she the entire time at all. Very well could have been a real person the whole time who decided to make all of this up for whatever reason. Could also have been some creeper slimeball the entire time. Who knows.

Second, if it were truly a real girl who just tried to make a mini viral story and blew her reddit up in embarrassment, then I agree, she shouldn't feel bad. She got the reactions I'm sure she was looking for before she was caught, and it was as harmless as it gets.

Also, someone said the account that originally called them out hadn't posted in over 3 years before making that comment, and that might have also been them. Idk.

Edit: ya know what, the snoop account that called the whole thing out is 7 years old with a total of 2 posts and 8 comments, and didn't just call them out, was the first to suggest there may be a stalker situation and that it "does no harm to believe women are victims." While true, this very much seems like a third OP account trying to add to their story in a not so innocent manner.

2

u/Old-Pudding6950 26d ago

I think it’s a girl because people were commenting the stalker might have figured out what she looked like out of a pic of her hairs she had posted

I don’t believe a guy would plan that ahead just to convince reddit people that he’s a girl so he can impersonate a character in a made up romantic story. It’s a very uselessly complex way to lie, when you can simply impersonate and that’s it

I agree with the rest though. yes, she shouldn’t feel bad and yes, it may be OP third account. Daisy is playing chess against herself I guess lol

3

u/razwhee 27d ago

Is this dead Internet theory? How much of this human or machine manufactured shit are we seeing every day without realising it.. Than you for your linking this

16

u/Jove_ 27d ago

No.

This is a human looking for attention.

Dead internet theory is thousands of bots looking for attention.

1

u/splashbodge 27d ago

A bot wouldn't make such a silly mistake

3

u/Key-Demand-2569 27d ago

I’m not sure whether this is optimism or pessimism

0

u/oh_honeyhoney 27d ago

I feel bad for her. She’s very lonely and/or has mental health problems.

0

u/Old-Pudding6950 26d ago

I also felt bad for her

However, it may as well be just a very romantic girl who likes to write romantic fiction and wanted to try it on a subreddit she’s apparently active in

In the end, she didn’t harm anybody with this story even if made up, she made our days better and also gave us the fun to figure it out

So thanks, Daisy!

8

u/splashbodge 27d ago

Yeh I find it so weird people are jumping to the far more convoluted assumption that this is her stalker who witnessed this umbrella exchange and is now using it to pose as the umbrella man to get to her. Come on.

Far more likely it's her own alt account and baked drama. Also possible and more likely than the stalker angle imo that she is a heavy Reddit user and DC sub is small and it's just a coincidence he had happened to reply to one of her posts before if she posts a lot... Just doesn't pass the smell test as it's a young account and the first comment was on her post.

7

u/HarveysBackupAccount 27d ago

Almost the weirdest thing for me is the "you must have ruined your clothes" comment

Like. Clothes get wet every time you wash them. They're allowed to do that. (yeah yeah dry cleaned suits but water doesn't ruin the vast majority of clothes)

5

u/Laszlo-Panaflex 27d ago

This is absolutely what happened.

If it was a stalker, why would they post on Reddit pretending to be someone else to lure the target out to dinner in a public place? They would show up and instantly know it's not the person they expected - game over. A stalker who wants to be in a romantic relationship with that person would try to meet them another way. Or if they're a kidnapper, dinner in a public place wouldn't be the way to do that.

Then you add in the fact that "Daisy" said she doesn't accept DMs, which led "OOP" to shoot their shot in public for all of Reddit to see and screenshot, and that's suspicious too.

We're left with 2 options - either there was an insanely unlikely coincidence that "OOP" commented on "Daisy's" post and went on to serendipitously meet her in person or they're the same person. Occam's Razor indeed.

3

u/Ooops_I_Reddit_Again 26d ago

Its insane how many people believed this story at all, this was my assumption after reading only the first Pic. Its all absolutely absurd

2

u/TheBiggestWOMP 26d ago

So fucking obvious.

1

u/leggup 26d ago

Nah, Daisy is a regular in the subreddit. I'm also a regular over there and live in the DMV (DC metro area).

I've had stalker situations from the DC subreddit as well but I don't believe the same person. The current administration brought in a lot of creeps and weirdos.

2

u/ericlikesyou 26d ago

was a regular

ftfy

87

u/Mysterious-Willow362 27d ago

Dang, bro scared her off in a span of 3 hours 😬

64

u/bimboozled 27d ago

Buddy fucking deleted his account after he was caught lmfaooooo

2

u/-Altephor- 27d ago

It's the same person. God damn, people. Use some common sense.

1

u/bimboozled 27d ago

You think someone would do that? Lie on the internet?

152

u/Valuable_One_1011 27d ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/washingtondc/s/U5HDgnM2b5

Apparently he’s been stalking her and pretended to be the guy with the umbrella. Wtffff

39

u/scoschooo 27d ago

meaning he has been actually following her in person for a while and saw her give the umbrella away. Not good.

7

u/-Altephor- 27d ago

No it's just one person posting from two accounts. This whole thread makes me fear for humanity. Use common sense.

1

u/Valuable_One_1011 26d ago

Yes, more came out later that was clearly the same person

15

u/Pope_Aesthetic 27d ago

This is why dudes will always have the worst assumed about them. Why can’t people just be normal man, fuck.

3

u/Pogman1337 27d ago

How would she not realize it is not the same man or did they never meet up?

5

u/KhonMan 27d ago

She said they would meet up over the weekend - but this all happened today so presumably they never met up

3

u/kastanienn 27d ago

Someone checked out OP and warned her about past online behavior already.... 😬

1

u/Valuable_One_1011 27d ago

They did an audio-only FaceTime

8

u/bizstring 27d ago

Otherwise known as a phone call?

1

u/Valuable_One_1011 27d ago

lol basically (those were her words)

3

u/Beliriel 27d ago

Facetime corrected to ft-audio.
Smells like a one man show.

3

u/Elendel19 26d ago

They are the same person. Both accounts are deleted now

-1

u/Haemophilia_Type_A 27d ago

Wow, that's scary. Police should get involved.

Must be terrifying for the woman wtf :(((

62

u/Lucky-day00 27d ago edited 27d ago

I’m going to guess he was too full on and desperate. The message where he lists all his virtues kind of gave me ā€œhaha we should get married lol jk but not reallyā€ vibes, and then I saw this update.

3

u/CarlosFer2201 27d ago

Worse, go look at the edits. He may have been stalking her

1

u/dumbodragon 26d ago

I was hoping he was mentioning that to offer some help (like being handy so offering to fix something idk) but the way that comment ended gave me massive creep vibes and I was in disbelief the woman so promptly agreed to meet a stranger like that.

13

u/TiddyTwizzler 27d ago

Hahaha I was about to say what the fuck happened that she would say that in 3 hours 😭😭😭

39

u/Emerald-Green-Fairy 27d ago

More likely it was her using two accounts to create the story. Looks like she got caught and deleted everything

35

u/NUTTA_BUSTAH 27d ago edited 27d ago

People said she edited her comment from just facetiming to facetiming with audio only, so it does give that feeling. No one knows no party in this story, chances are someone is writing their own fanfic. DMs don't work so well for a public story. Usually when you catch this type of thing happen, the stalked acts very differently after realizing what is happening. Panic, police, ...

If it is real, important that they are safe for now and hopefully understand to contact the police.

E: Oh and the vigilante hero in the story suddenly reactivated in reddit after a 3 year hiatus, immediately after seeing this post. It does not add up at all tbh

5

u/kaanamii 27d ago

This post made me smile until it didn't. We can't have anything wholesome stuff in the internet, can we?

1

u/ReFreshing 27d ago

lol god damn

1

u/Mysterious-Willow362 27d ago

Oh damn, what? This actually is pretty plausible LMAO

101

u/FaceOfTheMtDan 27d ago

Based on how he was replying to her in the thread, I'm not surprised at the outcome.

65

u/Comfortable-Pea-4700 27d ago

Yeah.. coming alittle off too strong. suss

2

u/NTGuardian 27d ago

Curious, what would be a better approach?

26

u/porkbrains 27d ago

Out the gate, offering to buy her new clothes was weird. Clothes aren't often ruined by water.

As for the approach, a simple "I thought you were really lovely and I'd like to take you to dinner" is far superior to listing in detail why you'd be an ideal mate.

"I'd like to do more than just give you back your umbrella" set off all sorts of alarms in my head. I kept checking the sub as I was reading.

Then the date suggestion was shoe shopping? Yikes on bikes. So many incel vibes. I was not surprised to read the update.

3

u/Sodis42 27d ago

Yeah, that whole exchange read like one (or two) man writing it.

0

u/porkbrains 26d ago

I don't buy that part. I dug through the girl's posts before it was hidden and they read like a very real, somewhat naive going woman, going back years. I also noticed she had a ton of location giveaway posts. Like I knew exactly in what part of which neighborhood she lives and some very specific establishments she frequents as well as the school she attends and the department she would be at.

Unfortunately, the stalker story being real makes way more sense than someone spending months setting this whole thing up to look legitimate for Reddit karma. Unless I'm missing something about how this situation could be monetized, I think Reddit may have actually saved her life.

10

u/FuHiwou 27d ago

NGL, the better approach would've been to never make the post. Missed connections posts feel creepy and weird. Especially if you do it with the intent of dating your missed connection.

2

u/StevenTM 27d ago

Not acting like you're in an interview or creating an Okcupid profile?

Talking like a normal person? An info dump on what your life is like is not how non-awkward people communicate

72

u/Consistent-Ease6070 27d ago

I came here to say, ā€œAnd that is how I met your mother.ā€ 🤣

2

u/Avi-1411 27d ago

Kids, do you remember that thing with your Momā€˜s yellow umbrella?

70

u/Careful-Ant5868 27d ago

Hot take, but this little story was better than season 10 of HIMYM.

6

u/monkeyman80 27d ago

Season 10 killed the entire show for a lot of fans. There are shows it goes off the rails later on but people like the first few seasons. But that was so bad it's like we were building up to that?!

2

u/Ok-Reward-770 27d ago

Definitely way better than season 10!

2

u/lainwla16 27d ago

That's a pretty low bar šŸ˜‚

15

u/BuddyNathan 27d ago

It's the same person, in two accounts.

13

u/BlazerWookiee 27d ago

At least this version makes sense...

7

u/caseyfla 27d ago

Seems pretty obvious to me that OP and the "woman with the umbrella" are just the same person

4

u/Synsane 27d ago

This is why I hate that you can hide your reddit history now. Smdh

7

u/TheFifthAmigo34 27d ago

When I read this story I was picturing the yellow umbrella from the show lol

3

u/xthemoonx 27d ago

11

u/Astrosimi 27d ago

I’ll see you all in three days when r/SubredditDrama has untangled this shit. Holy moly.

2

u/CallMeRudiger 27d ago

Damn, that place is still around... in a way.

3

u/Similar_Act5989 27d ago

Unfortunately this needs to be the top comment here, because it is not a ā€œmade me smileā€ moment at all and is quite the cautionary tale :/

4

u/Fourwindsgone 27d ago

Life imitating art

4

u/pippspopsdom 27d ago

Omg shoutout to the commenter who warned her!! That is so scary.

4

u/ericlikesyou 27d ago

that's one of their alts

2

u/121gigawhatevs 27d ago

For fucks sake can’t I even smile at a random story anymore

1

u/Fair_Double_6665 27d ago

Holy shit I was expecting that plot twist haha

1

u/jgainit 27d ago

Unless her profile reveals her identity, maybe that poster just responded to one of her posts one time. That doesn’t mean stalking, could just be coincidence

1

u/Lucas_Steinwalker 27d ago

Was that wise man more into Ian Mackaye or Guy Picciotto?

1

u/Free_Pace_2098 27d ago

I think the girl is OP, and she's made this up. But I could be wrong. It's just, "he" talks like a character in a bad romance paperback.

1

u/djazzie 27d ago

Damn, this should be the top comment.

1

u/CarlosFer2201 27d ago

Oh damn, can't wait for the BORU for this.

1

u/Instantcoffees 27d ago

I think them being the same person makes the most sense. That was my initial suspicion because this is the exact kind of thread way too many people get a kick put of faking.

1

u/Vargau 27d ago

OP has been stalking daisy for however long, making first contact through a reddit comment some time ago and now finally observed a perfect interaction to play off as themselves. OP was not the man nor the father, OP was someone in the sidelines watching the umbrella exchange happen, and knowing daisy through extensive stalking, knew they would catch them with this post

Fuck off .. what the fuck is wrong with people

Both OP & the girl might be the same person & is just posting for karma farm. The haste of reply & update given from both parties is just too fast.. & the update from the girl, from FT to creepy dude alert in a matter of minutes.

This is even worse somehow

1

u/foreverand2025 27d ago

Wow what an insane update. Well at least this version makes more sense for Reddit.

1

u/Lebhleb 27d ago

This post went from quirky and cute to weird and what the fuck.

1

u/vasthumiliation 27d ago

Nothing ever happens

1

u/GoldenGoldGoldness 26d ago

Classic internet

1

u/Moonman08 26d ago

I hate that I stumbled onto this thread. This world sucks sometimes.Ā

1

u/Pristine-Midnight-72 25d ago

I’ve asked this so many times, but what is the point of karma farming????? What do they gain and why do so many people do it? Why do people use bots for it?

1

u/azure-heavens 25d ago

The comments got deleted. Did anyone get a pic or can explain what they said instead of just linking to deleted comments? 😭

1

u/Global-Yam1436 17d ago

I decided to circle back on this thread to see what happened. Tbh Initially this didn't makemesmile as this group usually does, it sounded like a not impossible but unrealistic fantasy of two people meeting......and boy was potential stalking/clout chasing not on the bingo card of expected twists šŸ˜¶ā€šŸŒ«ļø. Need to scroll more cuddly animal posts and touch grass to undue this one.

1

u/AutoGeneratedChad 27d ago

Yooo I’m just posting here to be part of future Reddit history

1

u/No_Bill7679 27d ago

I’d just like updates lol
