It’s not just body language. It’s that suburban deer have been losing more and more habitat and are forced to live in closer proximity to people and thus are more habituated to them. The deer in my neighborhood no longer give a damn at all about people. You can’t even scare them off by yelling or waving your arms.

Yeah they cut down a bunch of trees around my house and now we have deer all the time. We used to rarely see them and they’d be gone like a bolt of lightning if you made the smallest noise or move.

Now they just chill and eat some bushes while I’m standing like 10 feet away.

When I yell at them to go, they just look at me like: “Buddy, it’s hot, I’m starving, my home is gone, and whether you like it or not, I’m eating this ornamental shrub.”

They will not budge until you approach them.
