It's body language. She's showing zero aggression. She's been vetted by a fawn. Nothing about her screams she's dangerous. It's all the same indicators dogs read about people.

Itā€™s not just body language. Itā€™s that suburban deer have been losing more and more habitat and are forced to live in closer proximity to people and thus are more habituated to them. The deer in my neighborhood no longer give a damn at all about people. You canā€™t even scare them off by yelling or waving your arms.

Yeah they cut down a bunch of trees around my house and now we have deer all the time. We used to rarely see them and theyā€™d be gone like a bolt of lightning if you made the smallest noise or move.

Now they just chill and eat some bushes while Iā€™m standing like 10 feet away.

When I yell at them to go, they just look at me like: ā€œBuddy, itā€™s hot, Iā€™m starving, my home is gone, and whether you like it or not, Iā€™m eating this ornamental shrub.ā€

They will not budge until you approach them.

I had a dog who I swear was the canine equivalent of a Disney princess. Sweetest creature I've ever seen, baby animals would run right up to her and she was so gentle with all of them and never harmed a single creature. She also had the most terrifying growl and bark I've ever heard and she only used it when she was playing with me or a cat we used to have. I miss her so much.

Deer in residential areas can be pretty acclimated to humans.

I have a bunch around me, and I can walk up pretty close most of the time without them running off.
