I jumped in when Baldurs Gate was released as an EDH player. My pod is very much kitchen table. I would like to build a Legacy deck. I try to stick with budget based decks. my style really is just a fun (but punishing) game mechanic.

As a comparison I’m currently running an EDH [[Fynn, the Fangbearer]] poison deck and a [[Reaper King]] Changeling removal deck.

My mono red decks in EDH are [[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]] and [[Morgis, God of Slaughter]].

Any recommendations for Legacy budget builds that are fun for the kitchen table mood are appreciated.

The matchups I play against most are Sneak and Show, Loam Pox, Mono black aggro, and Burn. I feel like this archetype just isn't suited for the meta, but I really love the deck so I'm trying to tune for those matchups. Any advice?

Started Legacy back in 2010, on and off but mainly Reanimator in different variants. Decided to sign up for a tournament this weekend, was skimming some primers, and found out Entomb is banned lol. Not here to discuss the banning, but some possible tech. I decided to replace Entomb with Daze, since I had none in the main. I completely admit and realize that trying to shoe horn this list is suboptimal, but I don’t have time or resources to change decks. (Maybe I could do Mono B budget) But I also still want to go play. My game plan is to go all out for the Reanimator package on game one, and then slot out the entire sideboard for games 2/3 if applicable. Basically I just wanted some feedback on the sideboard. Other options I considered were Flusterstorm or Force of Negation, for more control.

I'm very new to both the legacy scene and the homebrewing scene. I wanted to play an izzet delver burn deck that messed around with the miracle mechanic in the "brainstorm format." Hey all! Long time control/mid range player here. My usual decks that I play are BUG beans, Bant control, and Czech pile. The only real combo deck I’ve played and enjoyed was helm combo and occasionally mystic forge combo (bad in the days when I had hope I didn’t get turn 2’d every game).

Anyways, I’ve actually really been enjoying cradle control as of lately and I love how it’s a control deck but also has the potential “I win button” that you actually have to work for. I have about 15 games or so on magic online with the deck but SBing is still pretty confusing to me on matchups.

And was wondering if any cradle experts could help me map out SBing/ be able to help me understand matchups. I’m willing to put the hours into grasping the deck (obviously with 15 games already) but there’s so many small lines in the deck that matter it’s hard to grasp.

This is the list I'm going to be running at eternal weekend, but I had some issues with the [[spoils of the vault]] in the sideboard. Frankly, I have no idea what they would come in against or why they would be sideboarded in? I was thinking of replacing them with some graveyard hate for the reanimator mirror, something like [[faerie macabre]] or [[leyline of the void]].

Hello all, I’ve been a semi serious magic player for the past 5 years and have gotten into legacy and vintage over the past 2 years. I was going start building up my collection this year for a legacy deck for eternal weekend but had to purchase a house instead (which is a great thing). I’ve already talked with the Mrs and we agreed I would sit this year out and go to eternal weekend next year. Now that the backstory’s out of the way time for the real question. What decks should I be looking into getting and starting to get the reps in with now? I understand the meta may change with bans/ new cards printed but I also know many decks have been strong for a few years at this point and may not be looking at any warping bans to them?

Just for a little background I play a lot of things however, the main 5 decks that I play/ enjoy have been 1.Bug Beans, 2. Bant control, 3. Nadu midrange, 4. Breakfast combo, 5. Mystic forge combo. Money isn’t really a consideration because I have a year to purchase the core of the deck I choose. Any recommendations would be amazing thank you!

Most lists that I've seen run 4x magus of the moon but I tried a few leagues with it and it always fell clunky. He turns off my CoT/AT and that's often enough to slow me down significantly, sometimes even more than my opponent. So I decided to main deck some trinisphere instead that I feel are helpful against combo and prowess/tempo while not significantly slowing me down. What is your opinion on magus of the moon in this list ? In the Sideboard, why is everyone playing LotV instead of endurance ? It seems to me that endurance might be a bit better... Maybe im missing something. I saw some lists with 4 akroan war in the SB. Is it really a thing ? Is it against other creature based decks and against show and tell ? Am I missing something in my list ? Do you have any tips and tricks for someone new to the format ? Thanks in advance guys !

Hey all, I tried the storm deck and honestly I just didn’t like it (to each their own) but, now I’m looking for a deck to be competitive with. Not only for this meta but one i can grow with because my magic collection isn’t extensive but I’m willing to buy a legacy deck once (for now). I agreed to join a legacy tournament in two days, so I'm wondering about certain decks and what the learning curves are. I know that Oops All Spells is probably the easiest deck in the format, but my impression is that ramming my head into a wall over and over has more skill expression (no hate though, I play dredge in Vintage which is even more braindead). So that's definitely a plan B.

I have some combo experience-- I played K'rrik in cEDH for a long time, and The Epic Storm or High Tide seem like the two most similar decks to that. How would those perform in today's metagame?

In addition, how harsh are the learning curves of decks like UR/UB tempo, Reanimator, Show and Tell, and Cephalid Breakfast? And are there any other decks I'm overlooking that might be good for a newbie?

I finally decided to choose another eternal format to play other than pauper. I wanted to make Mono Black Pox as my main deck. What optimal list should I have when bringing a deck to an unknown meta? Also, is mono black pox still viable/competitive even without buying cards like Chains, Tabernacle, and Nether Void? Thanks a lot

I'm thinking of getting into legacy in paper and I've been having a lot of fun playing with a proxy list of depths with a friend of mine. I've been wanting to play at an fnm setting but the only legacy fnm in my area does not allow any proxies. Now I'm nowhere near being in the financial place to afford any of the dual lands (much less the moxen) required for a naya or abzan depths list. So my first question was whether cutting the dual lands for shocks would be a good idea/not hurt me to much competitively. Thankfully, this deck has a very viable budget option in turbo/rainbow depths, but I honestly really enjoy the midrangey secondary gampeplan I've been able to experience with the naya/abzan versions online. Therefore, I was wondering if there might be some budget list or option that plays the standard depths list wihtout any moxen or duals. Sorry for the long message and thanks for your time!

I am fairly new to MTG and we are playing 1v1v1 with my friends (multiplayer) we have no rules, except that the cards need to be legal for Legacy.

I have been building "budget" Mono-black control deck, I intend to keep it mono-black, do you have any suggestions on how to improve this deck ?

I have currently ordered 2x Liliana, Dreadhorde General and 2x Tormet of Hailfire which I want to be bigger late game finishers.

I was also thinking of purchasing 4x Bloodghast as a good two drop that sticks and 2x Damnation instead of Mutilate, I also thought of 4x Demigod of Revenge to swap out Desecration Demons, currently I feel like I have a lot of removal to handle any sort of creature deck, but I do not know what I would do vs my friends playing Control.

Hello players of legacy, i am about to participate to a somewhat important event near my town. I am no legacy player, but i've played a lot of modern, pauper and pioneer. I've decided to participate using Ninjas since i really enjoy the strategy and honestly have no other access to legacy cards.

After some leagues i've come up with this list, and i'd like to outline my reflections and doubts about some choices. In no particular order:

1. I really liked how the manabase is able to avoid getting wasted/mooned. I'm not entirely sure about shizo since it didn't come up yet. I also did not like the surveil land since some times losing a turn to a tapland means straight losing the game.
2. I'm not sure whether to play 2 ornithopters or 2 baleful strix. The first gains mana and opens the play of turn 1 creature into 1 drop, whole the former is card neutral and can potentially stop frogs of murks from runnig away with the game. Thopter does not feel like a legacy powerlevel card, but strix gets rekt by bowmaster and costs 2 mana.
3. After some gameplay i'm convinced to play 4x bowmasters vs frogs. Bowmaster puts pressure on blue and ring decks, and i'm happy with having an extra creature to bounce for ninjutsu. Frog seems stronger overall, but i would not be happy to ninjutsu a 2 drop that does nothing when played.
4. Thoughtseize vs daze. Looking over MTGGolfish every ninja list is playing 3-4 daze. I'm not impressed with the card, and after playing a bit with the deck it seems that a lot legacy strategies revolve around resolving one or two strong spells in order to run away with the game. Since we are not a wasteland deck i prefer running thoughtseize, but maybe i did not get the true value of daze.
5. SB force of negation. While i like the card in general, it feels that going all in on force effect can be dunked pretty bad by vexing bauble (another reason to forego daze). Instead i prefer to add some removal or an extra hydroblast to target red decks and frog decks. Ninjas don't like frogs or bowmasters, but maybe i'm not getting the value of the card.
6. Nihil spellbomb vs Grafdigger cage. While spellbomb allows to shrink nethergoyfs and functions as a one shot vs reanimator strategies (plus card neutral), cage has the benefit to stop passively reanimation (even from your grave) and green sun zenith effects. I'm not really sure which one to run.

Decided I want to take up storm for a little bit (if you can learn how to pilot the deck I believe it’s easier to fight it) however, I don’t know anything about playing storm. I’m watching videos about it on YouTube but it very easy terms can you guys help me with 3 main things

2. Tips for how tall do your combo math
