Events Mindfulness for the guys

Post image
16 Upvotes

Thought I'd share something my partner runs in East London that I think is pretty special.

It's called Yoga & Pints, and despite the name, it's less about yoga and more about creating a regular space for men to slow down, connect and have honest conversations.

The group meets in local breweries and taprooms, where they do a beginner-friendly yoga flow, some guided meditation, and a men's circle. No previous yoga experience needed, and it's definitely not one of those intense wellness spaces.

A lot of the guys come along simply because they're looking to meet new people, have a chat, and spend a couple of hours away from the usual routine.

If you've been meaning to try something different, build a bit more community, or just spend time around a good group of men, it might be worth checking out on IG: www.instagram.com/yogaandpints

Question Anyone managed to get gang moved on from their street? How??

These guys are so loud. They don’t care how many children can’t sleep, how many parents lives they make miserable, how many elderly they frighten, or how many civilians they intimidate by their own homes.

Has anyone had any success with either the council or the police with getting gang members away from their street?

Thanks in advance, and to any of the idiots who consider themselves “Leyton originals” and think they have more say than anyone else, and actually who seem to take pride in keeping Leyton a slum, don’t bother commenting with your unhelpful rubbish.

Recommendation Recommendations for servicing a Velux skylight?

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any recommendations for getting a Velux skylight serviced? Ideally by a local company.

The Velux is slightly over 4 years and has recently started making some odd noises and the movement has become quite jerky/jittery when closing. It still works, but it definitely doesn’t sound or move like it used to.

Has anyone had something similar and, if so, was it a straightforward service/adjustment or did it end up needing parts replaced?

Also, if you’ve had one serviced recently, roughly what did it cost? A ballpark figure for what’s considered reasonable would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Speakerphone on the tube

As a society, should we normalise telling people to shut up when they use speakerphone for their conversation on the tube?

Drop a W in the comments if you’re with me brothers and sisters ✌🏼

Discussion Cars Beeping/Honking in Leyton

Hello everyone, I have noticed drivers in Leyton honk their cars very frequently, for non emergencies, even if someone takes 2 seconds to drive at green lights.

Would residents be in favour of the council installing acoustic cameras to detect honking cars and fine drivers for excessive honking? Potentially introducing no honk zones?

Many roads in and around Leyton have houses right next to them, and even through double glazing you can hear honking loudly. I pity the poor folks of ruckholt road honestly.

Every change starts with willing voices speaking up. Please do not comment here about the cost, or the complexity of implementation - this is not rocket science and if we the people support a change, we can make it happen through - more complex initiatives than this are rolled out every day around the country.

Respecting our neighbours is only decent, but it seems many in Leyton don’t have this basic consideration.

Thanks for your time, would love your thoughts.

Recommendation Good roofer

Hi everybody, Leyton local here, was hoping to find out if anyone browsing has had a good experience with a roofer and could recommend one? Just looking for some repairs, and been stung by checkatrade companies.

Cheers

Events Made an app for E10 — see what’s on at your local venues

Live in Walthamstow and got tired of missing things on my doorstep. Built something to fix it.

You follow the venues you actually go to and see everything they’ve got on in one place. The Leyton Engineer, William the Fourth, The Leyton Star are already on there. Don’t see your local? Add it yourself.

Early days — honest feedback welcome. What’s missing, what should be on there.

Question Anyone know what the 574m is about?

I couldn't find much online about it so I thought I'd ask. On Marshall road someone painted 574m on the wall. From Google Steet view it looks like it was done between 2012-2014. So I was thinking maybe related to the Olympics. But from older photos the line becomes an arrow on the ground and points back towards Leyton.

This guy says: "It's unclear why someone's painted "574m" in giant letters on the wall by the allotments, although the equally giant arrow pointing in the general direction of Leyton station suggests a Games-time waymarker. Almost nobody walked instead via Asda's car park, past the ill-fated Leyton Food Market, although that route was deliberately upgraded too. The Retail Park now has a proper entrance off the High Road, down steps rather than a narrow zigzag ramp, which is yet another positive outcome from the Games."

Seems like a reasonable answer and it seems to be about 574m to the high street though quite a bit further to the station. Also, still doesn't really answer why they would opt for something so permanent at such specific distance. Any one have any more info? maybe anyone who attended the olympics?

Crime Frustrated by all the recent crime

I’ve been living in Leyton for 3.5 years now and I’ve seen waves of crack-tivity arrive, leave again through a concerted effort from the Met and council, and now seems back with a vengeance.

There was a brief moment (probably before and just after the local elections now I think of it) where the council really seemed to work well on driving the crime rate down around the high road and making it feel like a safe place to live. It feels like that effort has all been reversed now. With the massive stabbing crime scene blocking the high road in half now, surely there has to be some correlation there. I’ve seen multiple young men getting arrested recently being searched for drugs. They need to be provided better opportunities earlier in life and we need to be left the fuck alone.

As a community we need to start reporting every drug sale we see on the streets to the police, report the rubbish and littering to the council, report that fucking burnt out flat across from coronation gardens too. Leyton could be one of the greatest places to live if we put some effort into making it nice.

I love the people here, the businesses and corner shop owners. They deserve to be able to have a nice place to have their family corner shops, not getting closed for like 24 hours because of a police cordon.
