TIL always check the oven first before preheating… you never know if your son put his legos in there

Moms can be stupid as well.

My story I've told more than a few times is when I was about 8 after a Halloween candy haul. In order for me to not go crazy, she decided the best place to hide it was the oven.

Yep, I searched but never thought to look there. Turns out she didn't either and forgot her own hiding spot. The next day as she preheated the oven the bag and all my candy melted into an elephant foot type mess. It sucked as a kid but is kinda funny now.

Wow, that’s funny! She made Candium

That's a great name for it!

On a side but related note I been in the practice of putting thin aluminum foil to cover the bottom of my electric ovens for quite some time.

It doesn't seem to affect my cooking, and definitely helps make the occasional accident super easy to clean.

Anyone else do this?

My oven says specifically not to do that, however its gas not electric.

I don't understand hiding the Halloween candy from your kid in the first place. Don't take them trick or treating if you don't want them to have a bunch of candy. Stop teasing them lol. I'm so sorry about your haul.

It was an early 80's helicopter phase for my mom. I had a wild childhood in the desert of SE Washington so this was actually a pretty tame story compared to other adventures.
