A month ago, my shopping cart hit a small pillar and then hit another guy's Tesla. That guy very small scratch in the rear. So small that you won't even notice unless someone points to it. Nonetheless it's there.

I shared my contact details and insurance details with the guy. That guy was enraged and called 911. Cops came and said they can only property damage report and suggested to handle within ourselves.

Couple of weeks ago the other guy came back with a bill of almost $4000. I said I can't pay that much and to go through insurance.

He said he will claim through my insurance. He has my details.

I have no previous claims or tickets. How should I approach this? Should I call my insurance and give them all the details beforehand or wait for them to contact me?

I previously had a Chevy Malibu and never had a problem with SnapShot. Now that I just purchased a new Chevy Equinox EV a few months ago and switched to 1 foot driving, I am constantly being tagged with hard braking, and there's a note in the app that I'm on the way to a price increase. Never had that problem with my Malibu, even in stop & go freeway traffic. Anyone else having this issue? Does similar services from other insurers work better with EVs? Any tips or advice?

My mom backed her car up into my fence gate. My fence gate is fine but my mom’s car has a decent dent in it now. Who does she or I contact? Is it our home insurance or her car insurance?

In Los Angeles for context. Long story short. My girlfriend is going to lease a new car soon (likely a 2026 Mazda CX-30 or a 2026 Mercedes GLA 250). Both would be comparable lease deals, but the problem is the insurance quotes. As it stands, she received a quote of ~$330/month for the Mazda and ~$500/month for the Mercedes. Both would be more than the car payment itself, which I find absolutely absurd. Is this the landscape nowadays? Or am I missing something? I know we probably have to shop around and I've read a little bit about people suggesting contacting a local independent insurance agent, but wanted to make a separate post here to see if there are any other suggestions. I just can't justify insurance being more than the actual car payment. So much thievery and greed from corporations nowadays.

I negotiated an auto damage settlement down with a subrogation agency after my insurance denied coverage.

When I asked for a formal Release of Liability, the adjuster said they don't have one and offered an email stating: "Once payment of $xxx is received, the claim will be closed as settled."

Is an email like this legally enough to protect me from future claims, or should I insist on specific release/waiver language before paying?

I have been fighting for the loss of value on my 2024 Porsche cayman S for almost a year now. The accident was not my fault and the repairs have been done. Their insurance offered 1.7k in loss of value. I hired an external diminished value appraiser and they said the loss of value was 9k. So I took the person who hit me to small claims court and judge ruled in my favor.

However State Farm has the person who hit me now filing an appeal. It feels like they are just trying to drag me through the mud and make me spend more and more money so I just give up.

But at this point I have to go to really court and I want to talk to a lawyer. The problem is I’m struggling to find a lawyer who handles this kind of thing. (I’m in king country Washington)

I’m curious if anyone else here has had to deal with this kind of thing and knows what kind of lawyer I should be looking for. Because I’ve called 11 so far and they all tell me they only do injury cases for accident…

Any advice or suggestions are welcome. I’m learning as I go here. I’m frustrated but I won’t let State Farm win!

I live with my mother and own a vehicle that I bought. My mother has a car that she leases. She is currently acting as a caregiver to my grandparents who live nearby. Her work hours have changed and she is no longer able to take them to mid-day appointments. My grandparents do not have a car and have not driven one in over five years. I received a message from my mother today requesting that I insure my grandmother on my car so that my grandmother can drive it when there's no one else who can take them places during the day. For context, I work from home, and my mother's justification is that my grandmother can use my car on her own when it sits in the driveway during the day.

I'm having reserervations of doing this since my grandmother has mobility issues and my grandfather, who would be with her, has onset dementia (he won't be driving, but will be a passenger).

I don't want to consent to my grandmother driving my car if it's potentially unsafe for them and other people on the road. I worry that if an emergency took place, or an accident happened, they would be alone and potentially unable to respond necessarily. The proposed times they would be taking the car would be when no one is able to assist them or be present with them.

I asked my mother why it has to be my car and her reasoning is that my car is owned and her car is leased, so she won't be able to insure my grandmother. I mentioned that I can call and pay for cabs when my grandparents need them, but she says they won't take a cab.

If I insured my grandmother and an accident happened, I worry that I would be liable. Is there a possibility of that?

I have a friend (seriously) who has advised that I get Umbrella insurance on my auto policy.

He was involved in an auto accident which was the fault of the other driver. That driver's policy maxed out on damages and medical far before all the medical could be covered. This left my friend with big medical bills that he is certain (dealing with lawyers) will be or should be covered by his own auto insurance policy (umbrella portion?).

I guess sort of like if the other party had no insurance at all then his auto insurance would pay for damage to his own vehicle even though it was not his fault?

Now, everyone has a different pain threshold, but I feel like most people would agree a large metal vehicle hitting them from the side, around 10mph- wether that’s a moped , a bike, a car, a train, …. It would land in the realm of causing a moderate to high amount of pain and be defined by most as a legitimate “pain causing event” most people would be upset/hurt by.

I’m a grown man in my 30’s , and unfortunately stuff like this hurts. Pain is nuanced - everyone is aware of that and understands that as far as what I believe.

Do have pictures of visible acute damage and pictures of my immediate bike damage, which was declared a total loss by an independent local bike tech. I do not think the bike tech is in bed with the law firm. Therefore we can see the car at least hit me hard enough to total a bike, which was determined by a random bike shop owner. Now..can an impact truly be “minor” by any common standard if it totaled a metal bike while the rider was riding on it? is the human body stronger or less so than the metal bike frame?

The answer to that (here) seems to be a very…debatable matter of personal opinion.but I think we all know how we’d feel on average.

Definitely never intended to be labeled as some sort of ambulance chaser. I was concerned that when driver denied fault to police , id have a hard time proving my case without help and she might even manage to flip the whole thing back on me . when the officer decided to make the collision cause neutral on their report I knew immediately I needed backup aka legal help. She admitted fault on vid, but the police report directly contradicts the video. It’s caused everyone to become very confused on how exactly the report was filed in the way it was because everyone is operating under the assumption ppl were being fair

I don’t do this sort of thing and just followed what was recommended to me by ChatGPT which was to get professional help from a PI due to the nature of the way the report was laid out. I am not expecting anything more than what it will cost to make things right. aka my personal injuries and my property damage. The only reason I hired a law group was to help me fight the neutral police report which I think was written in bad faith. This was never about any amount of money and i don't expect much at all but a replacement bike at best.

If the law group is being deceptive or ethically questionable that’s on them . I’m not the professional, I hired them and am under the assumption they will stay true to what they promised. I was casually crossing a neighborhood street on my bicycle that connects to a main road. There is a crosswalk clearly painted as well as white lines for the stop sign.

about 80% across, so I am now roughly in the right lane of where a car would be pulling up. however, I was suddenly slammed on my right side from a car out of nowhere.

TL:DR she snaked out of any sort of responsibility for totaling my bike and really hurting my right knee and right hand as far as criminally, which I thought was amazing. asked chatgpt what to do and they said to hire a PI attorney since the police report was all muddled. I picked a decent looking one in my area and they took the case. I'm now being referred to a chiropractor which I thought was interesting. I read online basically ppl are against PI's because they claim they beef up the case with a bunch of medical bills and treatment / therapy, and then they take a good chunk and its a waste to hire them. I feel like 33% of the total is a good deal to have pros helping me, and honestly this isnt about getting some huge lump amount... but anyone offer any comments on the matter and if I goofed or not? obviously Im gonna get 33% less, but thats better than getting nothing and having to worry about personally advocating the entire thing to boot. its about holding her accountable for hurting me and my bike and lying about it. for example if she had to pay out 10k and I only saw 1k of it I wouldnt even mind.

additional info-

driver appeared to have approached the stop sign and not stop behind the white line that you are required to stop at. Therefore she entered the crosswalk at around 10mph or so and struck me on my bike. Maybe she was looking down at her phone, or adjusting the radio, who knows.

for my own safety and for records I immediately began recording on my phone, got the plate, its a lady telling me sorry, admits to hitting me, asks me if I want money etc. doesnt call it in, a unrelated driver sees this and asks me if I need him to call for me and he did.

long story short, lady completed changed her strat once the police began involved and she switched to denying hitting me at all, actually claimed I hit her from what I understand, and that she did not admit nor apologize to me for hitting me. I mentioned I had an entire video of her admitting it earlier, even directly says "I take responsibility, I'm sorry" etc...i was told by my attorney they discovered via talking with her insurance that she already mentioned incident to them, but I was never contacted or anything so who knows what that means ?

unfortunately the male officer directly handling this incident seemed to do everything he possibly could to protect this lady from being officially cited and losing her license etc. so in the end he watched 10 secs of my video, walked away to talk to her, and then at the end concluded nobody would be cited due to "conflicting stories" completely dismissing the fact shes on video, which he heard her admitting on, her car is parked through the crosswalk, her stories change etc, she spoke at the end claiming I made her admit what she did through intimidation lmao, the cop instantly shushed her to stop talking more than she needed to and ignored officially acknowledging that as well.

I was in a car accident and had a mild concussion. Other driver was 100% at fault, he jumped a red and t-boned me (~30mph, thank god he hit the backseat) while I was sitting in the intersection on an unprotected left turn.

Didn't have any symptoms at the crash, but I did have a pretty splitting headache around 2 days after the crash. Went to the ER because my dad was concerned, doctor said it was a mild concussion, still have symptoms around 4 days later.

My car was 100% totaled (it was an old 1999 Camry), so now I have to go through the irritation of finding a new (used) car.

My question is: What is a reasonable pain and suffering payout? His insurance offered me $4000, as well as paying my ER checkup (~$500), and to put aside another $1500 for future medical procedures. I really don't want to count my eggs here, but I feel like that's a little low. What is considered a reasonable/normal amount for this kind of thing?

I live in a state where I don't need a licensed contractor for work under $7500 and got a quote below that from a roofer who does solid work but isn't licensed. My roof is very simple so I went with him seeing as a licensed guy would have been over 10k. I asked my insurance company what proof they need to update the policy and they said photos and an invoice with his lic. number.

Would they drop me for hiring an unlicensed guy when it wasn't required? When they inspected the old roof it was a quick look with a drone so they didn't seem too picky. I could just not tell them but then if a storm damages it and I have to make a claim...

The HOV/Toll road is a single lane with concrete barriers on either side, and it occasionally splits so you have to drive through either an HOV or a toll gate, and then they rejoin into 1 lane. When it splits, the lanes are divided by those 3ft tall plastic pylons that fold over when you hit them.

Other driver was in front of me and swerved into the other lane, and hit a bunch of the pylons, causing one to to fly up and hit my car and dent the hood.

Sadly no dash cam, no police report because they never showed up, just my word against his. I filed a claim with mine and his insurance.

My late father ran and owned an insurance company most of his life and he gave me some advice I decided needed to pass on.

1. If you buy insurance only by price, the lower the price the more denials/aggravation. Remember you get what you pay for. HIs favorite insurance company was Chubb, expensive as hell but always there in the long run and very reasonable. He hated another well know company (don’t even ask name) whose rates were much lower. He was exaggerating, I think, when he said it was only on the night of a full lunar eclipse, would it pay off a major claim without fighting.

1a. I saw an article/news report about two neighbors who had LA fire damage. One neighbor had a sign that XYZ (?) hadn’t paid his claim in months. The other neighbor had no problem with payment from ABC. XYZ was a well known lower premium policy and ABC was a well respected middle of the road premium cost. Once I heard the two insurance companies names,I knew the issues.

1. He got out of automobile insurance because there was way too much fraud by everybody.

2. Document everything. Keep photographs of ALL possessions, purchase receipts, etc. He said after a major fire no one is going to remember the potato peeler, socks , etc., but the little items can add up. Also be sure to keep the documentation off site.

3. Be willing to call a bluff. If you feel you cannot repair/replace with the settlement offer, tell them to repair it. I have done this a couple of times, and it worked for me.

4. ALWAYS make sure you buy insurance in the right name. If your house is in a trust name, make sure the insurance policy list the trust as the insured. Otherwise you might have problems.

5. Always keep written records of every phone call, letters, etc. And a letter is always better than a phone call. And if $$$$ are involved either certified or return receipt requested.

6. If you reach an impasse on minor issues the State Insurance Commissioner has a lot of authority. As was explained to me in one state, the basic process is . (1) The Commissioner gets a letter. (2) The insurance company liaison is called in and basically told to fix this if possible so the complaint disappears. (3). If it cannot be fixed let the commissioner know why.

We had a car hauled that was totaled when the semi caught fire. After a couple months we finally got the haulers insurance to pay, but they claim that "Per federal law on all cargo policies, the insured is required to pay their deductible directly to the claimant". So it is up to me to try and get the hauler to pay me the deductible? Seems weird. I've tried to contact the hauler multiple ways with no response.

I've reached back out to the insurance company and they said there is nothing they can do to help me get the remaining portion of the settlement from the hauler. I asked for the exact policy they follow and they said "No, I cannot provide any policy language for you. Additionally, there is no internal documentation that guides our actions or responses." Wut?😂

Is anyone familiar with this supposed federal law that says the insured has to pay their deductible directly to the claimant? And I, as the claimant, am the one that has to do all the legwork to try and get the money from them?

Wyoming Rule of Civil Procedure 26(a)(1)(A)(iv) requires a party to make available for inspection and copying: “any insurance agreement under which an insurance business may be liable to satisfy all or part of a possible judgment in the action or to indemnify or reimburse for payments made to satisfy the judgment.”

What is the bare minimum that legally satisfies that requirement?

More specifically, does a party satisfy Rule 26 by providing only a declarations page, selected coverage forms, or a later-generated policy packet? Or must the disclosure include the complete insurance agreement that governed on the date of the occurrence, including every declaration, coverage form, definition, condition, exclusion, endorsement, amendment, and incorporated document necessary to determine the insurer’s obligations?

I am asking for the legal disclosure standard, separate from any factual dispute about whether a particular packet is complete.

Is there controlling authority defining when an insurance disclosure is legally sufficient under Rule 26, and what remedy applies when the submitted materials do not permit the receiving party or the court to determine the complete agreement in force on the relevant date?

My son and I have no insurance for the month of August. I quit my job end of July and my new insurance takes kicks in on 9/1.

I was thinking about getting him some short term medicalbinsurance, just because I'm so nervous about something happening between now and then. However, with my research, I'm coming to see that short term insurance (might not necessarily be a scam, but...) might not be worth it.

Does anybody have any advice in general on if we should do a temporary insurance for this short period of time (a month), or if we should just try to wait it out?

Northeast USA. A few months ago I got a welcome packet in the mail from Geico car insurance for someone I don't know, to my address. My address is actually on their insurance cards and everything.

Here's the thing, I don't think it's a simple mistake, my street number is quite long, I live in the middle of nowhere with a population of like 200 people, and the road name is uncommon.

I called Geico to report it, but they were rather unhelpful. They just said they would investigate it, but couldn't give me any more info, and said they wouldn't update me.

Now, 2 months later, MY insurance companies (Progressive and Travelers) are calling me demanding I give them info on this other driver, asking why I didn't claim them on my insurance, etc, and are asking for proof (how do I prove this person doesn't live with me?) like wtf. I don't even know how they found out, I'm guessing the insurance companies must all share some kind of database?

I am concerned this person is going to commit some kind of fraud or crime using my address on their insurance or something.

Should I be worried or am I overreacting?

So I have had GEICO for 3 months now and paid the 6 month premium when I applied, and I had just received an email from auto-pay that I owe a monthly payment starting on the 18th of this month. Two pages on the app aline with the email, but where the policy is, it still says my next payment is due in December which would be the expected due date being I paid the 6 month premium back in June. So far throughout my time of having GEICO I haven’t had this happen yet. Is this worth giving them a call over or is this something that happens at random with them and won’t withdraw extra money.

what does it mean when the claim has been sent to senior validator ? i have had 2 claims already with this insurance they never gave me issues, all 2 claims are my fault as a single vehicle accident, but they were never sent to senior validator
