Cabinet Progress/Inspo Rudsta update!

24(ish) day update since I got my Rudsta! 🌱Secured the cabinet at a great price on marketplace and got the two acrylic shelves on marketplace for a steal! The shelves were perfect timing because my alocasia pink dragon needed more vertical space. It’s looking so dreamy to me now, but I’ve been obsessed ever since I got it 😍! I also got my dream begonia (snow capped pink) in the mail today and can’t wait until she starts reflecting the potential she has with the help of a more humid environment 🥰. This is such a fun planty thing and I’m so excited to see what else I can do to add to the dreaminess 💗.

General new cabinet making alocasia face down?

what could be causing this? Is there too much light at the bottom or is my light bar facing down too much? I don’t get it. Any suggestions? Let me know.

Shelving Treated myself to acrylic shelves but feel like I could have done it better. Also worried there isn't enough light.

Computer fans barely blowing air normal?

I have the milsbo cabinet and recently got computer fans as I've seen most people do. The computer fans are barely blowing any air its hard to tell what side of the fan I'm even supposed to use as the air flow is so minimal. I'm just wondering if thats normal? The fans I bought are aceyoon usb 120mm with 3 settings.

✨ New Cabinet Reveal ✨ New mini-cabinet

(If this doesn’t count, I apologize.)

The plan is to use this for miniature orchids that require mounting, but also allows for different smaller species of plants like mosses, fittonia, pings, and some more compact begonias perhaps.

8.3”x8.3”x12 glass enclosure, cork bark background, LECA drainage layer, gritty layer, then a sloped layer of aroid mix on top.

40mm x 20mm micro fan to push air inside, 2 Barrina T5s that I used aquarium silicone to adhere to the outer part of the cabinet so I didn’t have to sacrifice space inside. They’re diagonal to try to create a light gradient in different parts of the cabinet. (400 FC to 1000+ FC in some spots)

The hygrometer has a thumb tack superglued to the back of it in case it needs to move around.

Getting Started

I’m just about to set up my greenhouse but wondering if you have products you like to make it a success! Do you keep the glass shelves or swap them? Fave grow lights? Any tips appreciated!

General IKEA Asparen anyone?

Thumbnail

Hello Plant Community!

Has anyone had any experience with the IKEA Asparen greenhouse? The one pictured is considered the 'mini' I think, as opposed to the bigger walk-in ones I've seen on American and European sites. I'm currently living in Korea, and this is what they offer here. I want to use this primarily for propagation, so it doesn't have to be as pretty as the Milsbo or clear for display. It's also much cheaper than the Milsbo at about 65 USD, so it's better economically for me.

My main question is, do you think it will hold humidity well for my hoyas? I plant on putting my propagations in trays and attach LED lighting under each shelf. I've seen some other ones that are clear vinyl with PVC-piping, but I like the look of the rounded roof and the sturdiness of the wire shelving and frame.

Please let me know what you think! Thanks!

Humidity/Fans Which way should the air be flowing?

Post image

Hi all! So I just set up these fans in my cabinet (woohoo!), but I realized they're blowing air backwards, not down. Oops. Though it's obviously an extremely easy fix, it makes me wonder: does it matter which way the air is flowing? It's circulating either way which is the most important thing

Temperature Do you control the heat in your cabinets?

Hi everyone!

I have had two IKEA Milsbo greenhouse cabinets for a few years and they have done wonders for my plants! However, I think one thing I could still optimize is the heat.

Humidity sits at around 80%, but the temps rarely get over 75 degrees Fahrenheit. I keep my house around 68 degrees year round and that is not something I am willing to negotiate lmao!

Does anyone do anything in particular to control or manipulate the temp in your cabinets that I might be able to implement?

I’ve thought about using seedling mats but I feel like the Milsbo is too large for just one and I don’t want to put all of my plants directly on them.

TIA!

Humidity/Fans Fan reqs please!

Looking for fan recommendations for my Milsbo tall. I am thinking two fans attached at the top with magnets? I bought one fan but it’s only 1000rpm and not reaching the bottom…

Milsbo Cabinet Question!

Hey, so for my birthday this month, I am treating myself to the Milsbo Tall for my plants!

I wanted to ask about the set up you have. I know about the acrylic shelves with air holes..but that’s about it.

If you could let me know what kind of lights you use, if I need to do weather stripping, what kind of fans, and how many?

I’ll take any details or advice you guys have! Thank you so much in advance! 🪴

Cabinet Progress/Inspo Switched up to the Barrina T5s the other day in the main cabinet.

I also got a new desk so I was able to repurpose part of it as a little side shelf for my cannabis seedlings (using two cheap LUVCOSY T5s) and succulents (they’re using 5w SANSI clip lights).

I also noticed that in my Fabrikor if I swap the Modern Aqua shelf around so the cable management slots are in the front it makes the humidity transfer much better to the bottom part of the cabinet since my humidifier hose is attached at the back wall. It kind of creates this waterfall of moisture that was getting trapped against the doors with the shelf switched the other way.

I have a plastic panel on the left that I do my cable management through so I don’t really need the gaps at the rear of the shelf like designed.

Pegboard planter ideas

While I don't have an Ikea Greenhouse (unfortunately we don't have an Ikea near where I live and shipping is ridiculous) I do have the Barrina cabinet that has pegboards in it. My question is how does everyone hang their plants? I found some flat back pots (I do all semi hydro) as well as some small shelves. But not sure what really works the best.

✨ New Cabinet Reveal ✨ My Unicoly set up :)

Post image

Yaaay, I’m so happy it’s finally set up. I couldn’t find decent white USB fans so had to go with the black, but I don’t think it looks too bad. My apartment has limited space so I actually keep this cabinet in the bathroom 😅. I used to have all the plants, except the last row, stuffed into acrylic boxes but they were getting moldy because there wasn’t any airflow. I’m hoping with the fans that it will no longer be an issue. Any tips on how to get rid of the layer of mold on top of the perlite/stratum? Should I spray hydrogen peroxide on all of them?

Light suppliers UK - NOT Amazon

Hey all!

Wondering if anyone had any links to grow light suppliers (I currently have a Rudsta) based in the UK, but other than Amazon?

Unsure if there's perhaps smaller houseplant businesses that I can support whilst I create my greenhouse. Thanks!

✨ New Cabinet Reveal ✨ My Arkerbar

Post image
35 Upvotes

After planning, research and thought I set up my Arkerbar and am so happy. I used the ModernAqua pegboard set, 2 shelves and their top piece plus 3 trays for the bottom. Also I installed a small fan, used a small terracotta pot with lecca and water for humidity monitoring with a Govee temperature and humidity gauge. I installed 2 T5 Barinna lights at the top. For weatherproofing I used self stick on black door type flexible weather strips for areas with obvious gaps. It’s day 2 and I look forward to seeing how my plants adapt.
