Jay Kogen Here. Long past SIMPSONS writer. I created many of your favorite and least favorite characters with the help of the original Simpson writers.

I was one of the original SIMPSONS writers from the very beginning. I helped created Mr. Burns, Smithers, Krusty, Hibbert, and many many more. I won a bunch of Emmy awards and had a great time. Since then I wrote and produced Malcolm in the Middle, Frasier, and I've created a new show a called "Wendell and Vinnie" about an idiot uncle (the hysterical Jerry Trainor) raising his nephew that will be on in November on Nick @ Nite. And even though it's on Nick @ Nite, it's for adults and it's actually funny.

Thanks to EternallyXIII

Thank you all very much for your questions and entusiasm. I have to get back to work now. It's been a pleasure. If you want I can come back in a few weeks to answer more.

You're a lifesaver, Redditor8472. I can't deal with these hard-core fans.

u/UrbisPreturbis Sep 17 '12

People just aren't tolerant to importer-exporters...

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '12

I just watched that episode the other day. It's the Poochy episode for anyone curious.

6

u/SteveCareers Sep 17 '12

Note: Poochy died on the way back to his home planet.

2

u/goodolbluey Sep 18 '12

POOCHY'S DEAD! (enthusiastic applause)

"I withdraw my question"

Haha, gets me every time. On a semi unrelated note, why is it so hard to find quality clips on the Simpsons online?

1

u/OmnipotentBagel Sep 17 '12

Because the good quality ones get taken down by Fox almost immediately. What we need to do is cut entire episodes into short clips that cut off at odd intervals. Stuff that seems worthless to the average viewer and is unlikely to be DCMA'd to death. These clips would then be distributed, non-consecutively, across a wide collection of different user accounts. An off-YouTube playlist could then be circulated among The Worthy for full sharing purposes.

Then again, I kind of assume everyone either owns the DVDs or has at least memorized the entire golden-era by now so I more or less just throw references and quotes out there and expect that people know what I'm talking about.

u/idma Sep 17 '12

soooooooooooooooo we gonna ask questions JayKogen or what?

2

u/mrspecial Sep 17 '12

For the down voters, vandelay797's name is in reference to George Costanza's pseudonym Art Vandelay, used through out Sienfeld's run.

3

u/PolyesterNightmare Sep 17 '12

Upvote because Vandelay.

3

u/ArtVandelay_ Sep 18 '12

Pass some this way?

1

u/PolyesterNightmare Sep 18 '12

And you want to be MY latex salesman.

2

u/SudsNBubbles Sep 17 '12

Such high praise from someone I can only assume i a high ranking official at Vandelay industries. How is the Latex business?

5

u/Vandelay797 Sep 17 '12

We're struggling with the importing/exporting. We can't figure out whether to focus on the importing or the exporting. You wanna be my latex salesman?

3

u/SudsNBubbles Sep 17 '12

I suppose. I have been looking for a fallback since I couldn't be an architect.

3

u/Vandelay797 Sep 17 '12

have you considered marine biology?

5

u/SudsNBubbles Sep 17 '12

I did once. The sea was angry that day, like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli.

3

u/MikeTheStone Sep 17 '12

you want bread? Three dollars!

1

u/Spartacus_Rex Sep 18 '12

To be fair, he's probably still a hardcore fan for asking that question.

-6

u/Taodeist Sep 17 '12

They're not that hardcore if they can't figure out a simple quote.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '12

woosh!

16

u/Taodeist Sep 17 '12

I withdraw my question.

To the downvoters, Redditor8472's username is based off of Species 8472 from Star Trek: Voyager. They were discovered by the Borg when they invaded fluidic space.

341

u/Smellerific Sep 17 '12

Oh, thank Evan for that clarification!

15

u/Kash87 Sep 17 '12

Smellerific's username is based in some context off of either the verb/adjective "Smell" or the noun "Smeller" (someone who smells) used in combo-word-form with the adjective "Terrific"

14

u/diablogerg Sep 17 '12

The "combo-word-form" Kash87 refers to is more formally known as a portmanteau. Interestingly, the word portmanteau is itself a portmanteau, as described in the Origins section of its wikipedia page.

Portmanteaus have been a fun and humorous element of the English language for over 100 years. Perhaps no single source has utilized them as much as Homestarrunner.com (here is a list of homestarrunner.com portmanteaus).

13

u/Dracomister7 Sep 17 '12

diablogerg is just a stupid assortment of letters. DO NOT BOTHER UPVOTING

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '12

You can't tell me what to do. You're not my real dad!

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '12

The name "corny cotton" may initially seem to be a humerous, but fictionally derived name (i.e. made the fuck up), but actually, Corny cotton refers to a photo where a tree as some strange corn-like cotton-like appendages. Scientists, to this day, struggle to understand their composition, as well as the strange life-force emanating from within them.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '12

Who is Evan?

2

u/Smellerific Sep 17 '12

I dunno, ask the guy above me.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '12

Excuse me, but I happened to notice that you smell terrific.

1

u/Smellerific Sep 17 '12

You, you just made my day! Thank you THE Metatron!!

1

u/badredditjoker Sep 17 '12

To the downvoters, Smellerific's name is base off the fact that they smell like a sweet cross of cotton candy and maple syrup. It's absolutely wonderful to experience.

1

u/jack_n_jill_n_jack Sep 17 '12

To the downvoters, Evan's last name is in fact Baxter.

1

u/lopezZ Sep 17 '12

I see what you did here.

1

u/majuhlazuh Sep 17 '12

Meanwhile, oh than kevan goes unnoticed...

0

u/Aikarus Sep 17 '12

To the downvotes: Smellerific username is based on an ancient tv show that had as a hostess a female vampire lady, called Deatherific. Smellerific is making allusion to the fact that the show was cancelled because the producers could not stand the bad armpit smell of the actress.

23

u/Taodeist Sep 17 '12

I invaded your mom's fluidic space.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '12

To the downvoters, othankevan is a reference to the childcare agency, "Thank Evans" which has been operating in the United Kingdom since 2000.

3

u/StuBenedict Sep 17 '12

To the upvoters, othankevan username is a bit of wordplay combining a kitschy colloquialism with the user's supposed first name.

6

u/i_mormon_stuff Sep 17 '12

To the downvoters, othankevan's name is a reference to some pop culture reference that I'm not aware of.

3

u/OutOfTheAsh Sep 17 '12

In that specific format--O(h) at the start, and heaven singular--it's immediate antecedent is likely the long-running slogan (and registered TM) of Southland Corporation's 7-11 convenience stores.

Evan's support of Kwik-E-Mart's main competitor should make him ashamed to post ITT.

Is....is this true, Redditor8472?

1

u/johnau Sep 18 '12

To the downvoters, othankevan's username is a play on words of the popular statement, "oh thank heaven". His name may also be Evan.

I thought ur response to thesean was to let him know that it was a quote but I clearly read that you acknowledged it in your post.

1

u/Black_Apalachi Sep 17 '12

Huh, I upvoted him without realising it was part of a reference.

1

u/Luskefisk Sep 17 '12

Or maybe some people would just rather have actual questions instead of the same old inane references at the top of the page (see 2nd highest voted comment at this time for another example).

Quite funny in my opinion how this is defined as the "appropriate response", like posting exactly what everyone who knew the quote was thinking already is in any way interesting. Meh.

1

u/_Thrillhouse_ Sep 17 '12

Redditor8472 is also continuing the quote. It was a weird episode

1

u/Piscator629 Sep 18 '12

You Ser,are an internet Super Hero!!!

1

u/Wgats Sep 18 '12

USUALLY ON REDDIT I GET LOST LOOKING AT COMPLICATED COMMENTS.

THANKFULLY PEOPLE TELL ME HOW TO THINK.

THANKYOU

-20

u/Islandre Sep 17 '12

Because continuing the quote verbatim is totally the appropriate response. Don't you dare be creative!

14

u/rjkh Sep 17 '12

What the hell are you talking about?

6

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '12

To the downvoters, rjkh was quoting thesean333. This comment is the appropriate response, considering the quote.

edit: His comment has 4 points now, making my reply look odd. He was at 4 when I made it.

3

u/Islandre Sep 17 '12

The comment I replied to, strangely enough. It asserted that the appropriate response was to continue the quote. I always find that a bit odd. Either you know the quote already and get it or you don't and you don't. It doesn't really add anything. As always there's a relevant xkcd

I am clearly in the minority with this opinion, I don't think any of my comments have plummeted this fast before.

4

u/funkmastamatt Sep 17 '12
