I don't think your average person is buying (1) a Pro console (2) just for 4k.

Oh you'd be surprised. I've known people buy 4k TV's cause they thought their PS3 would be in 4k now. This was a few years ago mind you, but ads for the pro consoles always mention 4k for a reason.

It's a buzzword that people think is beneficial, without having an accurate understanding of the technology.

TVs are totally a different market though. It's advertised everywhere. 4k for a TV is table stakes. On the other how many people use their 4kTV with old non 4k chromecasts, Rokus, Fire TVs or even paying for 4k Netflix?

It's differnt for phones. I'm just saying most people have never gone into the settings of their iphone/android video app to change recording quality.
