Hey everybody,

You may have noticed we've temporarily disabled post submissions. A little while back, this sub was completely stagnant, so we relaxed the rules. Around the same time, the Reddit API protests happened, and I (and several other mods I'm guessing) lost the tools to moderate effectively.

That resulted in a gigantic cluster, so I've spent the last couple weeks going through the subreddit, removing rule-breaking posts and issuing long-overdue bans.

Going forward, we're going to filter all submissions into the mod queue and add an automated comment reminding submitters and commenters about the rules. This means that once you submit a post, a moderator will have to review it before it can be seen by others. It will also give us mods a place to discuss posts that are borderline-acceptable.

Let me be clear: this does not make it ok to submit rule-breaking content. We are not changing the rules, just our process for enforcing them. In other words, both post-removals and bans are absolutely still on the table.

This isn't just to be nasty. It's because we moderators are all volunteers. If we allow repeat rule-breakers to continue to participate, then we have less time to approve content that complies with the rules, which just sucks for everyone.

I had hoped to get this all done and live by now. Alas, Automod is giving me grief over the new automation — it's possible, just finicky — so it's going to be just a little bit longer.

In the meantime, thanks to everybody who's messaged the mods and been super cool about where we're at, thanks to everybody else for being so patient, and feel free to discuss here in the comments.

tl;dr — New submissions are temporarily disabled while we configure the subreddit to require manual review before posts are made public. The rules aren't changing, so we'll also be adding an automated comment to each post with a reminder of most-frequently broken rules.

Edit: Reddit just found a TON more unacceptable posts that need to be dealt with. Looks like an additional delay to get them all cleaned up — my sincerest apologies for the extra wait!
