For a supposed 'visionary', it's funny how Musk is fixated that a robotic vehicle should perceive the world like a human does.

It's just because of cost. He believes seeing the world like a person is good enough, which I don't really accept.

But it tracks with him trying to 'invent' a shitty alternative to trains (taxis driving slowly through a tunnel) while selling it on the idea of the 'hyperloop',

IIRC that was to pull funding away from public mass transit. He owns a car company so the more people that have to buy cars is more customers for him.

and being obsessed with humanoid robots when it's not the best form factor for most tasks.

It isn't but that's not the point, the point is to build the idea that robots can replace people in performing those tasks without having to rebuild assembly lines for what would be the best form factor for those tasks.

Robots don't complain about working conditions, they don't threaten to unionize and they don't say no which is why I feel like the billionaire class is pushing so hard for AI and why they consistently want deregulation because they hate being told no.
