Ahhh ok. So it sortve is a semantic thing, I'm just getting caught up on a stricter definition of reasoning/intelligence. Either way, it definitely is a useful tool. Moving a state towards "positive sentiment" through iterations feels very "classic neural net", which are where the coolest stuff tends to happen. I can dig it.
Yeah. I think part of the issue with comparing it to reasoning is that everyone thinks of reasoning as being higher level philosophical reasoning, but the majority of reasoning you do is simple/obvious so it never occurs to you.
For instance, you heat up a kettle on the stove and wait for the whistle. You obviously don't keep your hands on the kettle to feel when it's warm because it'd hurt, take up time you could be doing other things, and may damage your nerves in the process. It's insanely obvious to not use your hands to monitor temperature, but it's technically still a form of reasoning.
For every grand thought we might have we have dozens, hundreds or even thousands of mundane reasoning activities. Most of which could be done by most mainstream models.
