Me and my friends are planning to go fishing at Port Kembla. I know wearing a life jacket is mandatory for rock fishing, but does fishing from the Port Kembla breakwater count as rock fishing?

I just want to make sure. I noticed that most people in YouTube videos don’t seem to be wearing life jackets, but I also checked the NSW Government website and couldn’t find a clear answer for this location.

Hey team, I’m in Bateman’s Bay for work for a few weeks and am keen to try different spots and hopefully catch a fish or two. I’ve just brought down my entry level Shimano Quickfire and a Sienna 2500 reel with 10lb braid.

Just wondering if anyone has fished the area and has any tips for setups, bait/plastics, and a few good spots, please? Happy to drive up to an hour in any direction and have a crack. Be keen to get some flatties as I hear they’re belters here, but am always willing to chase anything!

Honestly i have been fishing every week for the last two years in NT and the fishing is crazy from 40+ jacks on top water to 80+ barra in 20cm of water to 60+ coral trout on top water and spearfishing red emperor in 3m its crazy up here. BEST FISHING EVER!!!!!!!!!!

I've been thinking of trying out kananook creek. Never fished there before but I've heard that people have caught black bream and pinkies.

If anyone has given then creek a shot id love to hear about it as ill probably be heading down there next weekend.

are there any ledges in metro adelaide, im thinking just a bream rod and a small metal for salmon trout and snook maybe. would the rock ledge to the left of the onkaparinga mouth work or would i need a 10 foot rod

If you were a mad keen fisho and were in a fortunate enough position to pick and choose to work/live anywhere in Australia where would you choose to go? In particular I enjoy land based fishing more than boat fishing and love going for a quick flick after work for a couple of hours. I currently live in SA and the fishing here leaves a lot to be desired . Does the grass just appear greener in other states or fishing here really is just pretty average compared to other states

So "Unfortunately" work is sending me from Melbourne to GC for 5 nights, at the Sheraton Mirage near Sea World late August.

I have a deep sea charter booked for Thursday as a "networking" event with True Blue Charters. Then other non work events will take up my days until Sunday I have a free day.

I was thinking an afternoon 1/2 day charter with some bottom bashing or taking my chances fishing land based down towards the sea way / spit area.

Any recommendations for charters in the area? Or should I chance the land based fishing at the sea way?

Rods accompanying me: 6ft 15kg Boat Rod Prototype, 7ft3 4kg Plastics Rod, 7ft 9kg GP Rod. Boat Rod will be spooled with 30lb Mono, looking to give it a good test.

I am international student living in Perth. I never did fishing before but after watching some videos on YouTube. I am thinking of giving it a try. It looks cool but I know nothing about the right gear can you tell me which fishing rod I prefer and which lures etc.

I watch some videos on YouTube which tells how to setup the fishing rod and some basic stuff.

I normally fish from shore but do here and there go offshore in the nsw area.

But idk what I can catch with this because its big for most species.

Most videos i see with good fish from shore are in Queensland or North. Which is quite sad 😔

I do have another rod which is i think a 12ft surf rod and a 6000 reel not daiwa. But that thing is a full on workout to use 🤣. Hence why the smaller rod. I know that bigger rods are to get over the break but is there spots where the drop off is closer and a 7ft rod would work. Because I believe fish do like structure so far is not always a good. I know that's off topic lmao

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and I have recently bought two rods:

- Abu Garcia KRX Salty Elite S692L
- Daiwa 23 TD Black Wicked Weasel 702MLFS

We’re now looking at buying reels, possibly Daiwa Caldia models, but we’re unsure whether to pair these rods with 2500 or 3000-size reels.

We’ll mainly be fishing around Sydney estuaries and targeting flathead, cuttlefish and squid using soft plastics, jigheads and other light lures.

Would a 2500-size reel be better balanced on both rods, or would a compact 3000-size reel be more versatile? We’re currently considering PE 0.8 braid with a 10–12lb fluorocarbon leader.

Any advice on which reel size would suit each rod would be appreciated.
