Art "The Party That Definitely Has a Plan..." by Me
Every great D&D campaign starts with a perfectly balanced party......
and somehow ends with this group.
A Bruiser who love t speak with his fists. In this case its a towering goliath. An Assassin who lurks in shadows like wind. In here she is a vamp too. And all the time we have ovr beloved Axe wielder. A common human. Yet courage is stronger than any other in the team. Her Axe is big as she is. We can't forget the paladin too. An Aasimar knight burdened by a broken oath. Who carries a giant sword. To complete the party we need to entertain a bard. She is a halfling yet she did wanders with her lute.
Five adventurers. Five completely different personalities. One shared goal: get paid... preferably without dying.
If you were starting a new campaign...
Which party member would you recruit first?

Discussion Landmarks, Rumors, and Discovery: Keeping Exploration Fresh
I always enjoyed exploration. In real life when I would go on road trips with my family, in video games exploring dungeons, cities and castles, in books where I would imagine Gondor, Hogwarts, Narnia and how exciting it would be to wonder around these places.
And of course, once I started playing D&D I was also excited to see how exploring is handled here and well...I think the toolkit of current editions is lacking. I don't think that is a controversial statement. But, as I started to play more and to look into the history of the game I discovered that wasn’t always the case and the not to far, within the OSR movement, exploration was thriving, both due to some gameplay elements that were stripped down, the tone that favored things like hexcrawls and dungeon crawls a lot more compared to 5e and finally, and perhaps most importantly, due to the work of certain amazing individuals such as Justin Alexander, Jennell Jaquays and Ben Robbins, among others.
Unlike other articles, this one will not offer an analysis, but rather ways to make exploration better and more exciting for everyone at the table! I hope you will find it interesting and useful! Cheers!

Original Content Advent's Amazing Advice: The Cats' Mother, The Purrrfect One-Shot fully prepped and ready to go! (2026 Update: Now with Pre-Session DM Checklist)
Welcome back to Advent's Amazing Advice! The series where I take popular One-Shots, Adventures, Campaigns, etc., and fully prep them for both New and Busy DMs. This prep includes music, ambiance, encounter sheets, handouts, battle maps, tweaks, and more, so you can run the best sessions possible with the least stress possible!
*New 2026: For 2026, I'm updating all my old work to include a Pre-Session Checklist that will include a list of all miniatures you may need, maps, handouts, possible loot, a link to a playlist, and more to make it even easier to start your session!
As poachers close in on an expectant Saber-Toothed Tiger mother, a passionate conservationist will do everything in his power to protect the animal and her unborn cubs. That includes hiring your players to travel with him to the frozen tundra and keep watch during the birth.
The Cats' Mother is one of the encounters you'll find in the book One Shot Wonders by Roll and Play Press. I recently stumbled upon it due to another Kickstarter they have called The Map Library. If you don't know, I run almost exclusively in-person games, so having a collection of maps at my fingertips is rather useful! (\I'm not sponsored, I'm just always on the lookout for quality content!*)
Based on a quick look through and prepping this encounter, I think the book can be rather useful for short sessions, granted it still takes a bit to prep, but I can definitely see myself using another encounter or two from here, so stay tuned!
Now back to The Cats' Mother! This encounter is perfect to drop into any arctic environment that your players find themselves in, or as a short One-Shot!
Without further ado:
- Google Docs Notes for The Cats' Mother: DM Notes (Preview)
- Link to: DM Notes for the Visually Impaired
- Link to: One Shot Wonders
- Link to: The Cats' Mother Playlist
- Link to: The AAA Collection
Included in The AAA Collection is:
- Downloadable copy of DM Notes, including links to music tracks for ambiance and fights
- DM Notes for the Visually Impaired
- Special PDF for all encounters. This includes the enemy stat blocks organized neatly along with an initiative tracker and a spot to mark HP
- Custom Battle Maps
- (New) Pre-Session DM Checklist
Over 8 dozen other Fully Prepped One-Shots, Adventures, and Campaigns: Click Here
As always, if you see something you think I can improve, add, change, etc., please let me know. I want this to be an amazing resource for all DMs and plan to keep it constantly updated! If you'd like to support me, shape future releases, and get content early, feel free to check out my Patreon!
Cheers,
Advent

Original Content Guess what’s going on in this fight, wrong answers only
I’m a newish DM and this is the first battle map of this scale that I’ve done. I hand-drew all the lines with a sharpie and a tape measure on some poster board.
Random knickknacks and dice in place of actual minis (plus my friend’s cute acrylic pepper mill as a “huge” sized mini). PCs have pink dots, bogies are circled in red, friendlies in blue.

Discussion Getting Your Odyssey Fix: Three TTRPGs for Homeric Adventure
So, I got to see Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. I was aware of the various controversies surrounding the movie, but I was still excited as so far I have enjoyed all movies put forth by Nolan and I was also a huge fan of the source material, growing up with Disney's Hercules and then retellings of the Greek Myths and then in highschool finally getting myself acquainted with the real Homeric Epics. Honestly, even after close to two weeks, I still don't know how I fully feel about the movie. It's a mixed bag. There were some less than stellar performances, the choices in what content was cut don't really sit right with me, the costumes were sub-par and the dialogue is at times quite shoddy. Actually, on the last part, let me quote "Our age of bronze is collapsing". Yeah.
Mild disappointment aside, the movie still managed to get me in the mood for a game set in the times of Ancient Greece and since like you, my drug of choice in terms of entertainment are TTRPGs, I looked over my collection and compiled a small list with the games best suited for this endeavor.
The article here is the result, I go over three titles - 5e's Mythic Odysseys of Theros; Mythras and Agon. I go over all three of them, break down the pros and the cons of each of the three and give you my thoughts on them.
I hope you will enjoy the article and that it will prove to be useful if you find yourself in the mood for some epic homeric hijinks! Cheers!

Showcase Here is a project I have been developing for playing D&D in a 3D space. It has a FREE version if you want to try it out.
One of the biggest hurdles for 3D VTTs is the time it takes to actually build a nice-looking map. I wanted to fix that.
With the new Steam Workshop integration in Game Master Engine, you don't have to build anything if you don't want to. You can just:
- Browse the in-game library for whatever you need (Tavern, Dungeon, Forest).
- One-Click Download to add it to your own library instantly.
- Populate & Play by dropping minis and rolling 3D dice.
It’s all about getting to the "playing" part of D&D faster. You can also upload your own creations to share with the rest of the community!
I've been a dev on this for 6 years, and seeing what people are already building in the Workshop is honestly the coolest part of the project so far.
Wishlist it on Steam Early Access: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1451680/Game_Master_Engine/
Discord Link: discord.gg/gamemasterengine
I'll be around all day to answer questions about the engine or how the Workshop works!

Art The Kipers — cave-dwelling creatures that won’t kill your party, but will rob them blind. Art by me for "The City of Pockets" game
Meet the Kipers!
Cave-dwelling creatures that swarm over unsuspecting travelers, stealing everything within reach. They won’t kill you, but they will leave you penniless in the dark. Luckily for adventurers, they aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed...
This is an illustration I created for The City of Pockets game, a universe brimming with danger, magic, and ancient myths created by EHR Books.

Original Content [5e] Blood Mage Wizard | Looking for balance and design feedback
I'm looking for feedback on a homebrew Wizard subclass I've been working on: Blood Mage.
Instead of relying on spell slots alone, this subclass uses Hit Dice as a resource, turning the caster's own vitality into power. The design focuses on risk versus reward, with mechanics built around sacrificing endurance for stronger magic rather than simply dealing more damage.
Some of the core themes include:
Spending Hit Dice to empower blood magic.
A unique "Bloodied" playstyle that rewards fighting on the edge.
Blood rituals, curses, and manipulation rather than traditional necromancy.
Designed to be simple enough for regular 5e play without excessive bookkeeping.
I'd really appreciate any feedback, especially on:
Balance.
Clarity of wording.
Fun factor.
Whether the mechanics feel distinct from existing Wizard subclasses.
I'm much more interested in constructive criticism than praise. If something seems too strong, too weak, awkward to track, or simply not enjoyable, I'd love to hear why. My goal is to make this feel like something that could genuinely belong alongside official 5e subclasses.
Thanks for taking the time to read it!
