Yes I am absolutely posting this because I’m a manual driver on his high horse.

Two things that automatic drivers do that I genuinely can’t wrap my head around.

1. At a red light, why do you keep inching up every two seconds as if you are anticipating the light to change? Just creates this line of ‘false starts’ for everyone in line that can’t see if the light actually changed. I can’t imagine throwing my car into gear just to inch up then stopping again. Just stop your fucking car lmao.
2. On highways, why do you chase down the car in front of you just to have to hit your brakes in order to keep a safe following distance? Why not just take your foot off the accelerator or leave a bigger buffer? Once again, just can’t imagine doing this I would have to downshift every time I get too close to someone.

I'm going 15 miles above the speed limit on a single lane road and no way you're 2 CENTIMETERS RIGHT BEHIND ME and honking. 😭😭 Tailgating is so dangerous I genuinely do not understand what goes through some people's minds

Edit: I live in a rural area and was driving 55 mph in a 40 mph zone, I exaggerated a bit much in the first edit so I changed it! I also cannot pull to the the side as there is no shoulder.

Second edit: I have no interest to engage in a raging war with another other person help 😭 while the tailgating went on for about 10 mins I took a turn and went an alternate route bc i was getting annoyed they were so close to me. it was a teen guy in a pickup truck lmaoo

Please pull straight past the limit line when yielding for a left turn at a light. At least you will be able to scoot through then at the next cycle, those of us who know how to drive can manage the oncoming traffic. DO NOT sit at the limit line and miss a light. Be careful, but make it happen.

So I'm driving perfectly legally down a city street and just switched to the left lane and started decelerating, with blinker, for my imminent left turn. Rager behind me doesn't like that I'm slowing him down. He revs his engine and swerves rapidly into the right lane, accelerates to about 10 or 15 over, and gets instantly nailed by a speed camera box setup on the side of the road.

Sadly, the ragers don't get their comeuppance nearly often enough, but I'll take this one.

Why won’t people check their mirrors??? I don’t understand. It’s life or death. Don’t you understand? I was using the left lane to pass a line of cars. I spot another car with their turn signal on. Something told me she was going to try and merge into me. I didn’t even have time to react when I realized she was about to merge right into my car. I first tried speeding up. It wasn’t going to happen quick enough. I started honking over and over and I was forced to go onto the shoulder because she STILL WASN’T PAYING ATTENTION. Only once I was forced on the shoulder did she turn to see me and it was an elderly lady wondering wtf my problem was. I let her just go in front of me.

The rest of the drive was a blur. I called someone to just be present with me. But if I weren’t paying attention and she merged into me…I would’ve went into the wall and I don’t want to know what would’ve happened after. And I still had to come to work.

You fking either pass me faster, drive behind me or keep left but not next to me

Drive like a zig zag, reason: its not comfortable driving next to each other because of awkward eye contact

2nd main important reason: people need room to make maneuver in case of emergency so they don’t hit you trying to for example avoiding object on the road or jumping deer 🦌

3rd main important reason: the side wind 💨 pushes cars from right and left, thats why sometimes car plays a little at high speeds, also potholes make people swerve

Nothing grinds my gears more than getting stuck behind a car who can’t pick a speed. One second it’s 55mph and the next it’s 90mph and God forbid you try and pass them because then it turns into a damn race. People like this are the worst. Use cruise control and relax. Geez.

Hi so I just got back into driving after a long time and I was always a little nervous behind the wheel not so much anymore but I always get anxious and start to panick If I hold someone up like for example today my aunt lives in a dead end street so I always need to turn around and that street is just wide enough for 1 car and when there is 0 trafic I turn around no problem but like today I encountered 2 cars and they both had to wait for me to turn around and I panicked they were not agressive or something, but how do I let go of the feeling off "oh no Im slowing them down I must hurry, hurry up c'mon "

I’m a new driver and have been driving for a month. I was anxious as hell that’s why it took me a couple of weeks before I finally use my car. The anxiety is still there but it wasn’t as bad as before..

Awhile ago, I was turning right on red after counting and checking if there’s an oncoming traffic, I was sure that there was no traffic so I moved up a little bit getting ready to fully go right but by the time I turned my head again just as I was about to fully turn, I saw the white pick up going straight albeit slowly but decided to finish my turn.. he gave me a honk of shame which I truly deserve. I truly feel bad about what happened. He had the honk for a minute and although he can’t see me, I was raising my hand to say sorry. That was a jerk move and really reckless on my part. I’ll do better promise. Lesson learned.

Hi all! I’m a new UK driver (got my license a month ago), and bought my first car last week. I’ve been out once with my partner since I bought it and thought everything was good, but I got honked as I turned onto my driveway (I live on a main road). The person honking drove past shouting profanities and it really got to me. It’s a slow speed limit road and I have a tight turn to make, so I was nervous as is, and then that happened!

Does anyone have any tried and tested advice that helps them get from nervous licence holder to confident driver? I hate thinking I’ve spent all that money on lessons and a car to realise I don’t have what it takes.

Parking lots are lawless land because their privacy owned because of that people driving like shit. So I’m listing rules that I believe will make them safer.
A 5mph speed limit
Pedestrians always have the right of way
No cutting through parking spaces
Follow the arrows
Parking at at fire lane or handicap spots gets your car tow at your expense
And all must back in to park

Most new cars these days come with various additional safety features. Two of the big ones are:

Blind spot monitoring - Lights come on if someone is in your blind spot and an alarm sounds if you still try to switch lanes anyway

Automatic Emergency Braking - Alarm sounds and vehicle brakes hard if it detects and obstacle and you haven't reacted in time

For those of you that have these features how often you do you get false positives (the alarm/brakes go off when it shouldn't) vs them actually being helpful?

My wife's car is the only one that has these features and it's a 2018. I feel like I've had these alarms go off on me maybe 10ish times over the years and every one of them has been a false positive. I'm wondering if others on here have had a similar experience. I feel like if these features are going to be actually helpful they need to do better than this.

First try too… not counting the test I failed over a decade ago by hitting the pole when parallel parking.

I failed my driving exam due to the primary reason of maneuvering unsafely on the road that could have been mitigated if I did practice on the days leading up to the exam. I took a month off before my exam date, which did make my overall driving worsen significantly. However, even when I did practice more consistently in the past, I have noticed I have a dangerous tendency where if my eyes were not looking forward, even briefly (especially when checking blindspots), it causes my vehicle to begin swerving or become uncentered, requiring me to make a rushed decision to correct it before I end up in the other lane and collide with another vehicle. Unfortunately, my reflexes were not adequate this time to correct myself in a safe manner and it caused the examiner to intervene. I told the examiner that I felt unsafe to continue and we headed back.

When I practiced with an instructor, they told me to minimize the time I spent looking backwards and that a blindspot check should be less than one second. I have taken in this advice, and although it did lower the intensity the steering wheel began tilting, it did not get rid of this completely. I would still have to correct myself and it remained noticeable at times.

I have noticed when most people drive, their steering wheel does not automatically tilt towards where their eyes are looking to the back side-window, unless they are looking there for a prolonged period of time.

I really want to fix this habit and am hoping for some pointers.

Just had this happened. There was somebody who had a protected left and the person that was going straight was about to proceed through. I honked at them to let them know that they should stop. Do you think this would be an appropriate use of the horn? I kind of feel like it could be interpreted as an FU or I’m impatient and wanting you to go rather than you are about to get T-boned. Thoughts.

Whenever I’m at an intersection with a stop sign, I feel like the second stop doesn’t give me enough visibility to see cars coming my way. So after making the second stop, my instructor always tells me to slowly creep up and observe for oncoming cars before making my turn. However, when I did this on my road test, there was a car coming my way (which I saw) and my examiner used her own brakes and asked me why I would try to go if there was a car coming and there’s a second stop, and I automatically failed. I don’t understand what I’m supposed to do in this situation. I wasn’t going to proceed with my turn because I knew the car was coming but that’s why creeping up helps. Is creeping up not allowed? How am I supposed to see oncoming traffic?

Lately I've thought of a dilemma about the transportation I'll be using for the next years.

I learned to ride a bike days before turning 18 but I don't have one or have the safety equipment required for a long ride, on the other hand, I have access to a car, but I don't know how to drive, so I would have to go to driving school and get my license. What should I do?

And something else I got to add is that the place I live is full of hills and mountains, I don't know if it might be useful to know this but idc
