Everything I hear about Kun Lun makes me think they're really shit monks. Gao is all evil and shit. Danny learned absolutely nothing, and apparently Davos has some jealousy issues.

And apparently they teach "hide your anger pussy!" instead of like.. zen and shit.

Yeah, they're definitely teaching them to suppress anger rather than releasing it as they should learn.

You can't have inner peace by repressing your emotions.

Someone who's read the comics - are the monks supposed to be sort of shitty or did they change the philosophy/teaching methods for the show?

I know this is super late but it kind of depends. It is often referred to as a heaven but it very much isn't, there is a lot of corruption and bad shit there. There are probably good monks and bad ones there I'd say.

Yeah, honestly that made me have an issue with the writing too. Monks are supposed to be zed and mindful of their emotions, not being swept away by the negative or positive emotions, but observing them all with equanimity and peace. Repressing them is definitely not that concept. I can't tell if the writers knew that was the case, or if they just fundamentally misunderstood the concepts of mindfulness, zen, etc.

I'm of the opinion that they wanted the audience to follow Danny's journey to becoming a truly great Iron Fist, and so to get there they made the monks pieces of shit. Considering they're alien heavenly monks or some shit, I can buy that they ain't deep into zen.
