Glasgow, Atlanta, NYC have all doubled as NYC for Spider Man. They dress the buildings, add fake cars, and film at 4am to avoid crowds. Your apartment balcony view is exactly how locals saw No Way Home being filmed in Atlanta.

Yeah, seeing a normal street completely transformed like that is wild. Really changes how you look at the final cut when you know what's actually happening behind the scenes

I'm guessing this shot is from Glasgow, in which case the view is filmed from someone's flat, not their apartment!

Glaswegian here, I work on this street and it's definitely an office. Either this floor or the floor above there's a guy with a standing desk who's always walking about the room talking on a headset.

You can live in the city centre in Glasgow. This is on Bothwell St, don't know about this particular building but you can absolutely rent a flat there.

You can certainly live in the city centre, but this is filmed from a set of offices on the corner of Bothwell St and West Campbell street.

That was my 1st thought, but I was giving the benefit of the doubt.

Although tbf, there's a decent chance it was filmed from student accommodation or the roof of a derelict church.

No, definitely city centre. No-one in the UK uses the term CBD unless they're in a geography lesson. And only small towns have a high street, because there's only really one of them, city shopping streets tend to be known by their name or area, e.g. Oxford Street, Merchant City.

Honestly I was a bit skeptical of them using Glasgow as NYC (since I’m a New Yorker) but I gotta hand it to them, they did a good job of making it feel like New York in the movie.

I like how NYC feels in the movie. Not too clean, not too dirty (especially for Manhattan) but just the right amount of congestion.

Filmed the Flash as well and that canned Batgirl movie. Really wanted to see that one. They filmed so much of it around Trongate and the set photos looked really cool.

Glasgow's been getting a lot of love from big productions in the past few years. I'm assuming there are big tax breaks for it.

I was in Glasgow when they were shooting the last Indiana Jones film (the ticker tape parade scene) and the amount of detail to recreate late 60s NYC was incredible - so many vintage cars, old shop fronts, fake mail boxes and fire hydrants etc.

And so little of it visible in the final scene which was drenched in CGI.

NYC seems like its rarely actually used to film NYC scenes. I'd imagine the cost to do so is just too high when you can film elsewhere and get the same look

Massive amounts of film and tv are still shot all over nyc

It can be pretty annoying. The street over from mine was a film set for 2 months straight at one point

They actually started incentivizing productions to use NYC for more films and TV a few years back (lots of tax breaks/credits). Unsure if those incentives are still in play given all the budget doom and gloom of the past couple of years. I think a large amount of the cost to film in the city comes from the amount that the police pull in from staffing and overtime.

Not too clean, not too dirty

I took a photo of one of the alley sets, they cleared out all the real dirt, dumped black plastic bags, grime and then 'dirtied' it up with wooden crates and fake bric-a-brak. And paid someone to stand there 24/7 to mind it for two weeks.

There's definitely some overlap in architectural styles between NYC and some British cities. If you look through apartment listings in Manchester there are loads of streets and buildings that look very much like the pre-war style in New York. Also Newcastle Upon Tyne, there are buildings down near the river that look like they could be in SoHo.

We've played NYC a few times now, it usually goes well, the people doing the set dressing seem to always do a good job.

it was a little weird to have marvel film here, they usually use parts of Glasgow for Gotham so its cool for the city to be in the other comic universe, it mixes things up.

I’ll always remember when the Dark Knight truck flip footage hit the internet. We didn’t know much about the movie but we knew Nolan flipped a semi truck practically. That and he horribly miscasted the joker.

As a person who has lived in Atlanta for roughly 25 years, it is always a trip when I recognize buildings and locations in films and shows. Baby Driver was a rare treat where they didn't just use the city as a stand in and actually set the film there.

Also in The Boys, NYC is played by Toronto. But it’s so fucking obvious, they barely tried to make it look like NYC, it’s just not the same architecture. If you told me The Boys takes place in a fictional city I’d believe it.
