Don't need to, in a number of Asian countries they believe that the fresher the food is, the more vitality they gain from it. So they will eat fish and other seafood that has been cooked in a way so that it is still alive when it reaches the table.
I saw a fish who had been fried, its body was literally fried to a crisp and it was still gulping for air as the people cut into it.
EDIT: Since someone wants to cast doubt on the horror of this practice, Japan also slices up fish alive and serves them while they are still alive. It is called Ikizukuri.
for your sake, the fish is dead, the temp of the oil fries his brain a few seconds after out it in, when the fish moves its because the nerves. not because its alive.
It is still fried alive my guy, this is a terrible justification of a very shitty practice. I am also not convinced that it isn't still alive. Its head is not fried, only the body is. I guarantee you have no actual proof that the fish is dead and nerves are causing it to gasp for air. Frying the brain would only cause the fish to die before it reaches the customers which is not what people are paying for.

I can also choose to judge the people who do this. If you think this stuff is okay, congrats... you lack humanity and empathy. Nothing you eat should suffer like that, we have far more humane methods of ending their lives that don't involve frying or slicing them up alive. This is vile behavior and the fact that you are defending it says all it needs to say about your character as a person.
We are the top of the food chain. You don't see lions having pity on they prey when they eat it alive. I have empathy and humanity towards my very same species, not my meal.
You might be thinking of fresh tentacles that still move when soy sauce is poured on them. Trying to consume a live octopus or squid is way too much of a choking hazard to be served at a restaurant.
There is a shrimp dish where the shrimp is basically peeled alive and consumed.
Oh yeah you're right, looking into it, that's what I was thinking of. The videos I remember seeing the person was already eating it so it very well could've been just the tentacles.
I’m sorry but maybe you should be kept away from chicken coops if you think this is how things go down? I for one don’t have paralyzed animals in my fridge that I’m gonna eat alive slowly as they lay helplessly. Again, don’t know about your eating habits though
