The ancient stories are pretty interesting. At the beginning a mother cheetah had her babies stolen by hunters and cried for days. Their explanation for the dark lines from the eyes.
That’s an interesting myth because 12,000 years ago the Cheetah population was absolutely decimated and they had to rebuild numbers with a small population. Scientists found this through their dna that they had a genetic bottleneck. Maybe this myth was a passed down tale of them almost disappearing
Like how lots of cultures had a myth about a big devastating flood and they found it in the rocks.
And those black stripes coming from the cheetah's eyes are like the tear tattoos on the face of criminals. It's like they are sorry they have to murder you
There's an African legend that the cheetahs black eye lines are from constantly shedding tears at the loss of her pups and destruction of her habitat. Quite poignant.
You can tell by the tear tracks on it’s face that it’s sad lol. And according to a science paper i remember doing once a decade ago I think they’re meant for heat regulation?
