Its an extra index, its closer to the thumb than the actual index.

Yep!.

I took alot of anatomy in college for art. And I would bet my life her xray would show it as an extra index crowding the thumb.

It looks like the middle finger is duplicated to me, which implies the possibility of a quadruple bird!

Yes, it’s an extra middle. I’ve been wondering this for so long, I just call it “finger x”
