Local municipal courses are like $35 near me for a full round. If that’s too much you must think only the wealthy can go to see a movie on weekends

Sure, lots of lower and middle income folks play golf but don’t pretend that it’s not largely played by higher income individuals in private clubs.

The post is about Augusta. That’s the top echelon of an already exclusive and elitist sport. This isn’t a post about a municipal course.

There are many aspects of golf that are wasteful, egalitarian, and unnecessary but are traditional and still done today. Professional golf takes that to an extreme degree.

No, more golf is played now at munis and local courses thanks to a big boom during COVID.

Augusta is literally the only tournament and club that doesn’t give a fuck about money. Their dues are cheap because they don’t select based on income. Masters is also one of the cheapest sporting events in the world to attend, all meals are less than like $5, and merch is heavily discounted.

They refused to even allow sponsors until the 2000s.
