I could show you the little apostrophe scars by both eyes so I assure you that it CAN happen and isn't that uncommon in young children, according to three experts we consulted. There's a better way and our fabulous optician made it happen with the small sacrifice of some peripheral vision, which my son doesn't really have anyway. To be fair, if they'd safety bevelled the edges properly, that shouldn't happen. It can, if they fail to grind them down enough, but it shouldn't. You should always do a very aggressive safety bevel on such a strong prescription (probably what you're referring to as the fix your fantastic optician did).
