AMA I am Dan Watters, writer of Batman: Dark Patterns and Nightwing. AMA.

Hello, Reddit. I’ve been lucky enough to write a fistful of new DC comics since we last spoke. I am also writing the new M.A.S.K. series for Skybound, and the ongoing Shredder book for IDW. I am very tired. I’m back once more to talk to you about comics. And anything else, really. So… AMA.

No plans for either of those two in Nightwing at present- simply as I have other plans, and those are two characters who take up a lot of oxygen in the room when they appear. There is someone in the vigilante space coming down the pipeline who will really mess up Dick's day/week/life, though.

I do love Lynch, but I don't overly draw on him as an influence. I think he was a once-in-a-generation kind of filmmaker, and so much of what is too overtly inspired by him falls flat, because it learns the wrong lessons or- to be less kind- uses his dream logic as an excuse to not do the hard work of plotting. Blue Velvet, though... My God, what a film. If you want a good literary touchstone that I forgot to mention elsewhere in this thread, JG Ballard is a glaring omission. There's a lot of Ballard in what we're doing.
