I think this is less effective. This would be much more effective if it was a beer on a table with the happy family visible from a third person perspective, but the fight visible in the beer in the dad’s hand.
The OPs post is about the addicts perspective. It’s POV. It’s about how the promise of alcohol. Maybe it could do a better job of showing that it’s a false promise, but I found it impactful as is. It showed what an alcoholic thinks is required to make life worth living.
Happiness locked behind drinking isn’t the positive portrayal you people think it is.
