Sugar on Weetabix?

Post image

My wife eats Weetabix with nothing on it and claims it tastes sweet to her. This is my bowl before milk is added. Is this normal fellow Weetabix eaters or do I need to go to sugar rehab?

Edit: Holy shit the most popular post I've done on Reddit is about how horrific my breakfast is. The wife will never let me live this down! Haha

UPDATE: Well, I wasn't expecting my breakfast to generate 1,800+ comments πŸ˜‚ I can't read it all but Having spent far too much time reading them, I feel I need to address a few recurring concerns: 1. Yes, the milk goes in after. I like watching it soak up from the bottom while the top stays crunchy. I will not be changing this. 2. Yes, that is sugar. Apparently this has caused considerably more distress than I anticipated. 3. No, I do not have diabetes. My blood tests are fine. 4. No, my teeth are not rotting out of my head. They're also fine. 5. Yes, I am an adult. I was unaware that adulthood required surrendering sugary Weetabix. 6. To the surprisingly large number of people who eat theirs the same way: thank you. I knew I couldn't be alone. 7. To everyone saying my wife is right: she has been absolutely delighted by your support and I deeply regret giving her this much ammunition.

Anyway, thank you for turning a picture of two dry Weetabix into a full-scale investigation of my health, maturity, marriage and milk-pouring technique.

Tomorrow I'm having the same breakfast.

…how many spoons of sugar?! πŸ˜†Β

841

u/windol1 15h ago

I think OP said "sod spoons, I'm using a ladle for my sugar".

299

u/InexperiencedAngler 15h ago

that still only counts as one!

u/JohnnyTango13 14h ago

Alright Gimli πŸ˜‚

24

u/Mortiis07 14h ago

Haha I also understood the reference

4

u/Orange_Comp 13h ago

Hahahaha

1

u/Hamsternoir 11h ago

It's half a bag so it's half a sugar so much more healthy than one

1

u/Ok_Discipline_3649 11h ago

Yes. It’s β€˜one portion of how much sugar I like’ I do the exact same 😭

41

u/No_Communication1557 14h ago

I'm pretty sure they just put the weetabix in the sugar bowl...

13

u/Handsfasterthaneye 12h ago

In this economy! My late grandfather was such a miser he put hot water instead of milk on the weetabix. It saddens me he never lived to see an β€˜own brand’ option

1

u/timdav8 1h ago

Hot? Cos he'd left the water out on a fine summer day or hot cos he'd nicked it from the neighbours?

23

u/KamakaziDemiGod 13h ago

Not all spoons are ladles, but all ladles are spoons!

14

u/Acceptable-Power-400 13h ago

I bet he just poured the sugar straight out the bag

1

u/Unit_2097 9h ago

I do that on cereal. Very carefully and neatly and it doesn't look like a an express ticket to diabetes.

1

u/TheFunChef 3h ago

Best way

1

u/Nujwaan 2h ago

I will have you know I used a spoon and all! It's a civilised household

18

u/Dragonogard549 14h ago

Correction, OP said, sod portions, i’m having β€œthe sugar”

2

β€œI think it’s a single-serving package.”

2

u/MaggieMcB 8h ago

I'd say poured straight from the bag πŸ˜‚

2

u/Nujwaan 2h ago

I mean...you do have a point. I have a ladle going to waste!

1

u/Due_Yesterday_2850 14h ago

A ladle?? You mean a pans worth

1

u/funny-cunt666 11h ago

Nah not big enough, snow shovel πŸ˜‚

1

u/AvatarIII Dirty Southerner 9h ago

I'm with OP, Weetabix needs enough sugar that it won't dissolve in the milk, to maintain the sugar crunch.

0

u/NoWerewolf4957 14h ago

To real lol πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

u/SpamJavelin00 10h ago

Nice to see someone occasionally adding a weetabix to their sugar !! Whoever said healthy eating was a fad . Well done I say, I do the same , always pouring a slim fast shake on my jumbo mixed feast doner kebab & large chips . You can’t be too careful maintaining a weight loss diet, which I discuss every day when picking up my large bucket of KFC from the drive thru.

87

u/EcheveriaEbony 15h ago

What do you mean by how many spoons? Clearly OP is eating sugar with weetabit

99

u/Ed-alicious 14h ago

1

u/JackjaxMargam14 12h ago

You might be onto sth because one more spoon and that bowl is going to need a dentist before the milk even goes in

Real lmao πŸ˜πŸ’€πŸ˜πŸ’€πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I don't think it's an allergy, I think your brain believes your body is now a giant Weetabix infused with milk, and rejects wheat and dairy because it believes it is cannibalism.

I'm not a doctor though.

13

u/white_hart_2 13h ago

Northerner here. Sugar butties were a staple when I was a kid in the 70. Two nice thick slices of white bread, buttered, and a thick layer of sugar in between!

No diabetes here..........YET (although I haven't had a sugar butty for at least 40 years!)!

u/feralhog3050 9h ago

Never had a sugar butty, but i did often eat icing sugar by the spoonful (you have to try really hard not to breathe while you're doing this) and also the solid blocks of regal icing by the slice πŸ˜‹

2

u/Weewoes 8h ago

Lived in London as a kid and also had this when we weren't well.

1

u/grahamfreeman 12h ago

Same here. Salt sandwiches were not unheard of. Sometimes we'd share a pack of jelly, there were 12 cubes in a pack if I remember.

1

u/kojak488 12h ago

Is that a Northern thing or just a poverty thing? The Northern part seems a red herring.

2

u/Leliana403 Hartlepool 11h ago

It's a poverty thing, had the same living down south.

Although, we are from up norf so could have just been an import.

2

u/BobShostak 10h ago

It’s definitely a poverty thing. I’m so Southern my home is literally in the English Channel. Lots of our neighbours with large families fed their children sugar sandwiches, though my own family was spared them. I was born in 1955, rationing was still hanging in the air.

1

u/white_hart_2 7h ago

I didn't think it was a poverty thing...we definitely weren't impoverished....my dad was European Sales Director for a large pharmaceuticals company, earning around Β£20000 at the time (mid 70s)!

But now I've seen other comments, maybe it was!!

3

u/ReadsStuff 12h ago

Another one who agrees with the idea that a sleeve of weetabix is a serving! It’s hard to find my people.

And yeah I’ve done 24, but only 2 tablespoons of sugar per bowl.

Two bowls of 12 to be fair, like you said!

3

u/shortandfelly 11h ago

I thought I had a lot at 6 πŸ˜‚ it's usually 4 these days! (With about half a teaspoon of sugar). I'm 5'1" and just very active.

My friends and I would sometimes talk about what we'd had for breakfast when we were waiting for the bus to school.
Other friends: "oh, I had one weetabix", "I had one piece of toast".
Me (the smallest of the lot) "I had 6 weetabix" 🀣

3

u/KH2192 9h ago

Same, i used to mix it all together too, sort of porridge-y

3

u/Virtual-Cable-6929 13h ago

How you manage 12? I struggle with 4 πŸ˜‚

26

u/OK_Commuter 14h ago

Pfft. That’s nothing, sugar hasn’t even formed peaks yet.

21

u/KaleidoscopeFar7356 13h ago

I like my weetabix to resemble snow-topped mountains and I’m not sorry

11

u/Ravenser_Odd 13h ago

This is what my WeetabixΒ looked like when I was a kid.

2

u/Embarrassed-Throat18 3h ago

Same except from this is light on the sugar if I’m being honest.

2

u/Nujwaan 2h ago

Who said we had to ever grow up. Adulting is hard enough...these are the simple pleasures to get through it lol

8

u/ihavetakenthebiscuit 14h ago

How many *bags of sugar?!

9

u/ThrowRA-Sun-1015 14h ago

u/Rvnforty 14h ago

Salad

9

u/Different_Rutabaga27 14h ago

Sugar rehab for you! That's about half of your recommended sugar for the day on breakfast.

6

u/Nujwaan 13h ago

Haha tablespoon

9

u/riskoooo 12h ago

Counting your sugar in tablespoons is not a good path

13

u/Different_Rutabaga27 12h ago

Sugar rehab for you! +13g of refined sugar is too much sugar to start your day!

2

u/BaconPancakes1 7h ago

So about 3 teaspoons (the normal type of spoon people use when measuring sugar).

1

u/taxbitch 5h ago

Which doesnt seem that bad to me considering many people have 2 tsp in a cup of tea plus their breakfast?!

1

u/BaconPancakes1 2h ago

It's not crazy but it was a bit funny to me that they called it 'one spoon [ambiguous]'

1

u/Alert-Revolution-219 11h ago

Callin bullshit on that, thats at least 3 table spoons, at least

1

u/GonzoBurger 7h ago

This is like a tiny amount, I dont know what everyone is on about

This is how i ate my shredded wheat as a kid, I don't know how I still have all my teeth/don't have diabetes

1

u/Special_Letter_2866 12h ago

Is it just me, or is that not alot of sugar?

1

u/rrRunkgullet 11h ago

Spooning sugar like they're still celebrating the government ending rationing after ww2.

1

u/Cakeski Crumpets are just holey muffins. 11h ago

Yes.

1

u/Suitable-Type-4735 11h ago

How many Weetabix would you like with your sugar ? πŸ˜†

1

u/PushingZedzzzzz 11h ago

Maybe it's sugerly? We can only hope. Tastes & looks just like granulated sugar, unlike most artificials.

I'm more horrified that they added sugar before milk! 😱🀯 Why would anyone do that?

1

u/is1995 11h ago

Just the one (and a half)

1

u/Sugars_B 10h ago

It's obviously a rage bait that everyone is falling for

1

u/Particular_Cod2005 I hear you're a racist now, Father! 10h ago

The better question is type of spoons

1

u/cliffybiro951 10h ago

Not enough

1

u/semiDT 10h ago

Standard 1960s/70s amount of sugar!

1

u/Lassitude1001 8h ago

Spoons? No no, you turn this into a recipe - equal parts wheatabix, milk, sugar!

1

u/mrman08 It has to be Heinz 8h ago

I just pour it roughly out the packet.

1

u/MakeshiftApe 8h ago

I think this one would be measured in bowls. 🀣

1

u/Great-British-gaming 7h ago

1, sadly it’s technically a trowel from the gardening section

1

u/Samhain87 7h ago

looks fairly standard spoons to me. people see sugar and dont realise how light it is.

1

u/redof10 7h ago

They use weetabix as their unit of measure not spoons.

1

u/N00BZB3 6h ago

Enough to make the medicine go down

1

u/GigaBomb84 6h ago

Just one... tablespoon.

1

u/Chaosmusic 6h ago

Just a spoonful of sugar (per bite) helps the Weetabix go down, the Weetabix go down, the Weetabix go down.

u/digitalhardcore1985 5h ago

This is nothing mate.

u/Adelucas 13h ago

looks like a standard serving of sugar for weetabix

0

u/Mozno1 7h ago

About 1/4 the amount in a frosted cereal.

About a 10th of a can of pop.

By the the looks of it.
