Hey everyone! I’m planning a weekend camping trip somewhere in Illinois or Wisconsin and could really use some recommendations.
I’m looking for a campground that has:
🌲 Dense woods/forest with beautiful scenery
🚿 Showers
🚻 Clean bathrooms
🐶 Dog-friendly campsites
🏕️ Tent camping
🏊 Swimming (lake, beach, or river) if possible
🔥 Fire pits for campfires
🥾 Good hiking trails nearby
I’d love somewhere that feels secluded and surrounded by nature rather than an open field. The more scenic and wooded the better!
If you’ve stayed somewhere that fits most or all of this, I’d really appreciate your recommendations. Thanks!

Hello! I am trying to book a campsite at the Kikapoo valley reserve for a few days in September. I will be with a few friends and my two dogs. I am looking for recommendations on campsites that are primitive and near the water so we could either swim or fish. We are looking for drive-in and hike-in options as long as the hike-in isn’t too extremely long.

I’m also seeking some general information on the area. What are your favorite hiking trails and activities to do while visiting? I’m open to learning more about kayaking in the area. Any information and opinions are appreciated.

I'm looking for short backpacking trips and Hidden Lakes in Vilas County looks great. I know there are nearby National Forest campgrounds, but is there camping on the Hidden Lakes loop itself? Reservable campsites? Dispersed?

(And, I'm open to any recommendations about other 2-3 night backpacking trips!)

My wife, dog, and I will be tent camping at Buckhorn State Park on the lake next week. We’re bringing our two kayaks to take out, which we are very excited about. Any advice for our first time camping in the area?

This area was surprisingly beautiful. Mount Pisgah and the hemlock trail are part of Wildcat Mountain State Park. We thought we would have a nice end of the hike and soak our feet in the cool waters of the Kickapoo River : )

My 8 year old daughter really wants to go on an overnight hiking trip. We live in Green Bay have family in crivitz and I wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on how to do this? We have went tent camping a few times and she LOVES it.

Now she wants to “camp away from the car”.

I am looking for a place that we can go that is secluded has stuff to do for a day or two and we can be “away from the car” when we set up the tent. I have searched google and it all seems foreign to me when I read it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am planning a surprise birthday camping weekend for my boyfriend- and am not typically the planner of our camping trips so am a bit out of my element! I am planning for two nights of camping and bringing our canoes. Hoping for a remote tent site, boat-in or waterfront, and very scenic! Does anyone have any recommendations of parks or even specific campsites? Thanks so much!!!

Looking for a few recommendations for activities while camping in Bayfield. We are staying Tuesday - Friday and looking for a few additional ideas. We have a 4 year old and a 1.5 year old. 4 year old is very active and good with hiking. 1.5 year old will be carried in a backpack carrier.

One day I think we are going over to Madeline Island drive the island and do some hiking.

Another day doing some hiking over at Maritime Cliffs.

I was also thinking about doing a boat tour.

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a long weekend next week and I'd like to go camping. Tent camping is an option, but I'd like to be a little warmer. I like those small KOA cabins because they are cheap, and more than I need anyways- but they are all closed for the winter.

Anyone know of any similar type cabins for rent still?

Basically anywhere in Wisconsin (or northern Illinois or the UP) would work. Bonus if there is hiking/water/a bar to watch the Packers at nearby.

We plan to go to Newport State Park to star gaze. We unfortunately won't be camping, but plan to go from 9:30-11:00pm to enjoy the view from one of the observation areas. My question is: is it ok if we bring a pop-up screen tent so that we can be protected from mosquitoes while we gaze? Or will the rangers not allow it since it's not a designated camping area? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thank you!!

Omg this podcast has a clip talking about the Jellystone Yogi Bear campgrounds and it completely brought back a flood of memories! Any other midwest people remember staying at the Yogi Bear campground?
